Hey folks--

So, I got this idea in another thread. I don't have the machine or the bandwidth to constantly vidcap matches. But, occasionally, some of my best matches have been when I fought through a HUD-bug.

I would like to challenge all of my fellow players to play through HUD-bugs as best they can and post the results, as an inspiration to those (like me) who feel they can play through these bugs, if not successfully, at least adequately.

As opposed to DCing with a hud bug, why not treat it as a challenge, a handicap, where you can shine through brilliantly?

I know, the bugs are annoying, and they need to be fixed ASAP. But, instead of QQing about things PGI already knows, why not make a culture of bragging-rights and manhood around this?

My best, so far, with no HUD is 3 kills, 5 assists and over 600 damage in a CN-9A with no HUD. Had an awesome team, so that helped, but you guys should be able to beat me and persuade players that it's worth sticking a match with no HUD.

MOD's, if this needs to go to Metagame, I'm fine with that. I wasn't sure which of these two forums to post this in; if you need to move it, please do.

Edit: to clarify, I am not making excuses for HUD bugs. They should be fixed. But instead of whining about them, we should do something awesome.

A few days ago I dropped on tourmaline desert with 2 friends of mine. By the time the startup sequence was finished i realized that i had no HUD...

I informed my mates and grouped up with one of them piloting the Heavy Metal. He was easy to identify because of his camo, i myself was riding an Highlander 723...

After the rest of the team started to engage the enemy, my friends and I started a flanking manouver...

Though I had no HUD I managed to kill 3 enemys using my 3 LL to guide my SRMs and gauss slugs to the target...

We won the match and had just 1 man down!

A shame that I didn't capture that game... =(

So having no HUD or IFF can still get you an intresting match =D

I had an interesting match, not with the HUD bug, but with the IFF-bug, which is IMO similar.
It was a really big challenge keeping track on who is who but because of that I kept flanking whenever I could, then wait until I had a clear and identified target and only then started shooting.

It seems this unspectacular kind of warfare kept me off the priorities of the enemy mechs. Which in turn resulted in one of the best damage outputs I had in a long time for that build. (and thankfully no teamkill)

I usually at least try to draw fire for my team. I mostly get the no IFF and targeting version. wait till battle is hot and try to flank shooot obvious enemire.. and try to get them to turn away from allies...

or go for the early base cap and draw couple off to fight there.

I like this idea; it puts a positive slant on a negative situation, so here's my tale.

Last night we deployed into the Alpine scenario. One of our leaders (Green identifier) sent the message "My HUD is out" or something that meant the same. I came back instinctively with "Roger, I'll stay with Privateer". We ascended the first ridge then I took up position on a partially defended ledge (I am a Sniper Atlas) where I could cover my Lance commander and also engage targets of opportunity with my LRM 15's. This worked well and I was able to provide some fire support for my disabled commander.

I can usually do alright with no HUD, just pick a similar mech to yours or an atlas and follow him around. The only time I've had trouble getting hits was in my 2 PPC Cicada 2B. Even then I still ran around like a mad man drawing fire for the team.

I think they should turn the hud bug and all related cockpit info bugs into cockpit criticals. I just think it would add an extra layer to gameplay.

Loving the stories and the suggestions... Now we just need someone to get lucky with a vidcap!

If you're a real beta tester and gamer you'll suck it up, i've played matches with a blank minimap and no iff, hell i even risked a seizure fighting a spider with a raven through the yellow screen bug. Which was a good thing actually taught me that it was multiple layers of the terrain overlapping before i raised the ticket, you can see the multiple overlays in my death screen......

Crazy! I bet that helped them track down the yellowscreen bug. Haven't had that one in a long time.

I had a hud bug a couple weeks ago where I topped the chart for my team. Too bad we lost ;)

Thanks! If you're having HUD problems, instead of QQing in the other forums, please post into this poll,
