BAP, ECM, TAG, Command Consoles, NARC. All these things aren't weapons and currently their implementation is somewhat confusing. In addition, the way they are implemented has made some mechs desgined for electronics, like the 3L, highly effective attack mechs and other mechs designed for combat, like non-ECM Commandos, less useful.
So, what if NARC, TAG, ECM, Command Consoles, and BAP had their own type of hardpoint instead of Missile, Energy, and "none" respectively? I'm not convinced ECM should be on that list because it might mean ECM for all, but it's a possibility. Some mechs, like the Raven 3L, would have a greatly increased capacity to load up on these tools for the price of a lower possible weapons load.
I'm still not sure if this is a good idea, but I thought it was worth posting. Anything that could help separate mechs with more electronic capabilities from mechs with more combat abilties is good in my book, especially since modules are currently of such modest value that the extra slot some mechs get really doesn't make much of a difference.

I agree 100%. I actually assumed that with Hardpoints they would have Equipment Hardpoints as well. As they moved out of Closed Beta it was actually suggested. It could be another balancing point for mechs.
Raven 3L would have 4 EW slots while it's varients would have fewer.
Jenners would have 1 slot.
Commandos and Spider probably 2, maybe 3.
Cicadas get a bunch, most other mechs 1 maybe 2 if a less used variant.
I would still restrict who can equip ECM some.
This would also free up some slots on some mechs. Spiders and Commandos could pack a TAG without losing 1/3 or more of their firepower. The Raven on the other hand would have about 1/3 of it's firepower converted to EW slots as it's NARC and TAG slots switched over.

Good idea overall, I agree on handling ECM as a special case and require restrictions.
