There was ever really one true Clan and it's name was Wolverine.

Sadly it's awesomeness was so superior, it's light so bright, that all the other 19 clans (at the time) conspired to snuff them out. In the end the Clans started a precedent that has continued ever since...they failed.

All the Clans have ever been able to do since was to dwindle their own numbers further and lose to Quasi-Religious Monks who pray to transmitters before turning them on.

Seriously, a Warrior society bred through Eugenics and armed with the most advanced technology lost to a bunch of green pilots out on their first live-fire action. Only Clan Wolf wasn't a total embarrassment and it's 'rising star' is a captured inner sphere 'Freebirth'.

Sarah McEvedy saw the writing on the wall and got most of her troops the heck out of Dodge. (In case you don't already know, let me save you a trip to Sarna.net. McEvedy was the Khan of Clan Wolverine and the commanding officer of the 331st Royal BattleMech Division before that. Where she took them and what they did is still anyone's guess.)

And McEvedy's forces promptly met u with Conrad Toyama, and went on to become Comstar's secret, private army. And when Focht told the Clans that the ComGuards were yet to fight a major battle, he cleverly fogrot to mention their training, or origins. This, in tur, caused the arrogant, and over-confident khans to bid low, in the hopes of winning more glory, than Clan Wolf, whose khans were ostensibly Warden, participating in the invasion because it was required of them, as Kerensky's chosen clan.

As much as I love me some clan ghost bear (the clan's philosophies are awesome imho), I should point out that the homeclans are far from boring or lame.

Take Goliath Scorpion. They're a bunch of treasure hunting hippy hoarders who have this crazy duel thing they do with knives. Or Blood spirit, who were super ********* for the majority of their existance over how clan Burrock to the point where ~rather then eat popcorn and watch while clan Star Adder devoured them~ chose instead to interrupt their trial of absorbtion, causing those two clans to turn around and beat the crap out of the Spirits. Then their is the Fire Mandrills who are in a state of perpetual civil war due to how their blood houses have all factionalized to prove that they're more awesome then the others.

Seriously: The home clans are hilarious.

There is no Clan flibbertygibbert that did some stuff and then some other stuff.

If they weren't in the novels (or I don't remember them from the novels) they never existed.

Why would Kerensky split his group up into a kajillion poopy little pieces? How would they even have enough equipment to colonize that many separate homeworlds, each with their own self-sustaining civilizations? Especially given that clan snow badger's homeworld appears to be some sort of frozen hell, and clan fire burrock/pixie dragon lives in a parallel dimension, like Asgard from the Marvel Universe?

Where did all of these Clans even come from (IRL)? When were they conceived of? Certainly not from the very beginning...

?

Wolf's Dragoons is the only clan.

Which of course I am kind of being sarcastic because it is a merc unit, but still I'd like it to be its own clan.
I read up on the history of this unit on sarna and it is interesting to say the least, when they were on outreach it is as if they were attempting to be their own nation.
