Heya, I made a MWO-vid that I'm quite happy with, just random assorted shots to get my recording and editing skills up a bit. Would love feedback on it!

Pretty solid start. I liked the effect you did during the record skipping near the beginning. But the effect didn't appear later on when the sound came back. ;)

In the future, perhaps more variety of mechs to look from? Not just in variant (which is a good touch btw) but in chassis as well.

Also, you may want to consider getting a camera commando to follow you around.
Spoiler

Having someone that can get footage of you fighting and getting kills, or simply running around to lead between one scene and the next can go a long way to expanding the potential of a music vid.

Good luck!

Copy/paste link into thread. Click post.
(Note it must be clean. No "s" after "http" and everything from "&" onward needs to be deleted from the link.)

For example, after .com//watch?v=yzgkdEVmc6w&playlist=12834789yaujdhfjk

You'd delete everything from & onward to become .com//watch?v=yzgkdEVmc6w

I hadn't acually thought of that, that's a really good tip!

On that one, the sound effects, music, etc. are good. I would have time-skipped travel time, otherwise it'd be like this one I worked on some time back and abandoned (was going to cut the travel time to base down to short second or two clips to give the impression of travelling without the wait and overlay music to better hide my sources of audio).

This was made using the original, unreleased MWO computer voice.

Kon's abandoned "Single player experience" video. (Linked, because going there will be more likely to inspire someone to comment / like the actual video. "I'm out of ammo, you want me to throw rocks at them instead?"

Many of the critiques I received before abandoning it included using picture in picture overlays on one of the monitors to show other mechs that are communicating whether by exterior or interior through their neuro-helmet camera views. Enhancing with sound effects. Time-skipping or fade-flashing the travel back to base. Using an effect to continue to give the false impression it's night time in Caustic Valley (not possible though).

I have not re-attempted a new one because the shutdown bug is now impossible to force.

This is another video where I did some overlay sound effects taken directly from MWO to emphasize in-game sounds to make them more impressive. Again linked because this time it is time-skipped to the point where I'm done with an exploit report and moving on to fight. Sadly I wound up as all V-spiders end up. Dead. But I sounded awesome doing it. Uses only MWO sound effects.

Indeed. The only downfall is that your "camera" will need to play with the hud off and zoomed in order to be just a camera. The alternative is to allow it to be recorded and played normally as a second pilot in your lance, in which case you could even try a split screen like this. Nothing fancy, just side by side video of me and Lordred in our Hunchbacks. Audio is played from both for a few seconds to show that the footage is as closed to synched as possible then it switches to exclusively mine.

I think the video is broken, it was advertised as a music video but all I could hear was an infuriating noise that sounded like someone banking their face on a synth while strangling a hamster.

Not bad. I will agree with Koniving, that the stutter effect you used in the beginning is something you should continue to use throughout a vid like this. In general, on a 'music video' you should try to keep the on-screen movement as close to the rhythm and beat as possible.

It is very time consuming, but very much worth it. It will also push you to learn shortcuts and new features in your video editing software. Also:

Mack1. I'm not a huge Skrillex fan either, but the following is the reason why this song in particular makes me smile every time I hear it, and DucKNoriis, this is what I mean by following the rhythm and beat (Not MW:O related, but same idea):

I acually toned down the effect to not bore viewers, but that seems to have been the wrong call.

I really appreciate all the feedback! As for the dubstep: the next one will be by Sabaton :(

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about boring viewers. There are so many gameplay vids out right now, that it's hard to tell them apart. You really need the extra effects to make yours unique. I myself am completely bored with gameplay videos. Everyone and their dog is making one it seems. Here is a link to my latest vid. I'm trying to do something different than the standard 'watch me blow stuff up' videos...

Yeah, I've thought some about having a script etc. But until they implement private games I figure it's a real hassle, we're trying to get 16 man from SoR to go
