Hi all,

I've been reading up on the Battletech universe, and happen to really like ComStar and the ComGuard so far. I was just wondering if anyone else would be interested in them at all... coupled with that I'd also like to see the most up to date faction allegiance data possible!

Tell me thoughts below! :)

In 3049 Comguard is not an active participant, militarily, in any engagement. It isn't until 3052 (I think) that Comguard flexes it's muscles.

Personally, they don't interest me at all, they remind me of religious zealots and that's an idea I simply despise on general principle.

Yes, yes and a mercenary unit since those are the only player run units in MWO so far.

It just doesn't fit. ComStar isn't in the business of invadiing planets and they don't make a marshal appearence until Jihad exploding goodness and for their debute fending off the Clans on Tukayidd.

That happens a few years down the road, so I'm sure they'll leave ComStar and WoB for future releases.

That's not stopping people from forming lance teams under the flag of ComStar though.

For the record though. ComStar not so religious. WoB faction, fairly bomb harness and esplodey.

At this time period, WoB /is/ part of Comstar. There's no separating the two.

However they decide the ComGuards should not play any role at all for 3 years.

They are still a faction within ComStar. Yes, they ARE ComStar, but they still have their own agendas from my reading of the lore. Otherwise, such a large coup and exodus from the ranks wouldn't have been possible so quickly.

I would definitely not join ComGuard myself(Lonewolfing for life! :) ), but I fully support ComStar as a playable fraction. The more the merrier! :)

Comstar never really "works" as a faction, just based on my experience in planetary leagues.

While the ComGuard was pretty badass, and had cool star-league era mechs, for the most part no one really knew that.

Most of Comstar's power stemmed from their ability to shut down the HPG system... while, at the same time, not really having the military might to directly go up against the houses. So there was always this kind of subtle political dance being performed by Comstar behind the scenes.

It's really hard to have normal players perform that kind of extremely nuanced role. Comstar tends to be better used as a "Hand of God" unit, that administrators use to smooth things over in a league environment.

You dare to provoke ComStar!!!!! Your life has become forfeit, my friend. Fight well, for you will not last long against the ComGuards. They only serve one person, and one person only, and that person is Pa[REDACTED]

Anastacious Focht was a man with a very clear agenda and every other comstar figurehead around him, All with very clear but seperate agendas. All the while claiming one agenda as a whole. Fanatics and Zealots is pretty fitting. Some might even call them heretics.

Comguard is around. Do not forget all those wonderful treaties that Comstar set up after the wonderful "staged" atacks on HPG stations.
Essentially Comstar got the right from each house lord to garrison thier own stations with thier own "security" forces on planets near the border zones so that a house lord would never be tempted to fire on a HPG station that had house troops.

Also do not forget the Warrior series where Hanse (if I remember correctly) was off trying ot get away from the crowds when he bumped into an accolyte. During that brief encounter he noticed the telltail smell of coolant comming from one of the acolytes. Only to find out later that Comstar had HUGE reserves of battlemechs on Earth and that by the looks of things they were in "regular" use.

While they are not a known entity there are many unexplained attacks that depending on the writer/cannon are because of the Comguard.
For example in one version the Minnesota tribe is the fleeing "not-nammed clan". While in another version the Minnesota tribe was a Comguard excercise to target specific areas to help keep thier "technology" grip.

The only way for a Comguard faction to really work is to have it as some sort of "eventual goal" kind of like SWG had the original Jedi, where you had to jump through 50 hoops while singing the star spangled banner backwards in swahili

WARRIOR: Riposte
ComStar First Circuit Compound
Hilton Head Island, North America, Terra
17 August 3028
Riva "How far down do you think it goes?"
Akira spots acolytes coming up the ramp, "Not that far" speculates about them not having rebreathing devices.
ComStar Acolytes walk past up the incline past the tour.
Riva (Quintus Allards Daughter) "that's true but they walk funny."
Akira Brahe(Yorinaga Kuritas Son) -Thought- it was strange to, Only time he'd seen people walk like that was after extended time in a mech simulator- Turning back to Riva, "Do you smell that?"
Riva frowned, "Burned Ashqua"
Akira nodded, Mech coolant a smell he knew all to well.

Later that night Akira ninjas' up and infiltrates the lower levels of the compond and finds an under ground Hangar full as far as his eyes can see with unblemished combat ready Mechs of all tonnages. One could speculate that they were training ComGuard as early as 3028. Proof dosen't arise till quite a bit later.

after reading your post I recapped the book to lend merit to what you said ;)
