I have always been a huge fan of stock only matches in Mechwarrior games. While I recognize the importance of the mechlab in Mechwarrior (and love it), I also am way too much of a Btech nerd. Sooo. This post is kind of to gauge interest in forming an unofficial "league" of sorts who is devoted to using only stock mechs.

This kind of just popped into my head so I'm still fleshing out ideas, but I'm thinking of assigning some kind of BV system to the stock chassis to balance games, as anything with star league tech would have a significant advantage in a ton for ton matchup.

So are there any opinions about this? Any units interested?

I haven't been in a SHS mech since DHS were released... well actually I have, now that I think of it - I took a Raven out with one large laser and 11 or 12 SHS. I could shoot it twice, or so, then spend the rest of the match cooling down to squeeze off a third shot right at the end, if it lasted long enough.

I don't think I can handle a puretech match.

I'd totally be down if every other league wasn't competitive on a DHS/Endo/Ferro/ECM/JJ basis.

Really I'd be down if it didn't require even more Cbills to be sunk into downgrading to play.

As it sits? I'd only use trial mechs because the rest of the game is geared to the most expensive equipment you can field (with no penalties).

Well both points the two of you have brought up are exactly why I think stock matches would be fun. They would be much more deliberate and slow paced, and very much more battletech oriented. I don't know if you remember how much different combat was when r&r was still around and how much it changed when they nixed it, but I think playing stock only would do something similar.

Also the PureTech Society would compete separately from regular leagues. I realize it would probably be smaller as most people don't really care for not being able to min-max everything to death but for me it would be a dream come true. Almost anyone can copy and paste a build into the mechlab and get decent at it with practice, but learning to actually kill stuff in a stock dragon, now that takes skill.

I suppose it would be like regular battletech in that you could only expect to fire your weapons once per 10 seconds.

Another point is that the more you practice in a stock dragon, the more your ELO will sink until you're playing newbies in trial mechs who don't know how to deal with the torso facing a different direction than the legs. I think at that point you should be able to squeeze a few kills out of a match. :)

I wish for a mode that incorporates longer weapon cooldown. Much like Blender Battletech which is an awesome indie game, and the best interpretation of TT rules next to MW2/3.
