Greetings, I just started playing MWO today but have been a fan of Battletech books and the MechWarrior PC games for, well, decades now. I have to say "Holy Crap" this game is absolutely insane. Maybe it is just that I am not accustomed to such technology since I am not a "gamer" but after quickly getting destroyed (did I mention I'm not a gamer?) and watching the first-person views of other pilots play it boggles my mind that just the other day (about 24yrs ago) my friends and I were playing this game with pencil, paper, and dice. I'm sure to some this is just another adrenalized pixilated fix-of-the-week but it really is cool to see how far Battletech has come. Well Done!

Just to note that this sub-forum is meant to discuss the tabletop editions of the broader BattleTech/MechWarrior franchise, rather than MW:O in particular, so you might not gain too much traction talking about the computer game in here.

That said, there has been (and continues to be) a lot going on with Catalyst Game Labs' handling of the pen-and-paper aspect of BattleTech, if you wanted to look into what has been going on there as of late.

Are you only looking into MW:O for the time being, or would you be interested in seeing what "classic" BT is up to nowadays?

I agree, battletech has come a far way and it is really cool to see what they've done. Glad you like the game so far :).

If you're looking to get a grasp on the game, DrLasers, feel free to hop up to the "New Player Help" forum, and ask anything you want, and feel free to make it as specific or as vague as you want. You'll get a lotta peoples 2 cents, as well as some rock-solid advice. There are also a lot of public Teamspeak Servers to game on so you can get some voice advice during a game, and a lot of private groups looking for members. I'm pretty certain House Steiner has a pretty active thread, if you're going to stick with your current faction. If you prefer a less public forum, feel free to message me, personally. If I can't get you an answer, I'm certain I can find someone who can. Welcome to the game!

Such enthusiastic posts are always refreshing to read. Welcome to active duty, MechWarrior.

Amidst all the whining (in which I occasionally chime in, too) about the state of the game, it is easy to forget how far the franchise has come and how lucky we should all be that the IP has once again returned to monitors across the globe. I for one already had countless hours of fun and adrenaline-filled battles from MWO ever since I started playing so many months ago, and I can't wait for the upcoming faction warfare.

Anyways, for further fascination, also consider to watch some of the neat fan trailers that have been created by some very talented fellow gamers...
