So we attain a "convergence lock" the same way we currently attain missile locks.. makes sense.
And of course, even without a lock, we will still be perfectly able to fire and hit with direct-fire weapons.. just without convergence.

Here's an idea:
Maybe you get the convergence lock to kick in more quickly if you're nearer to the target.
And maybe light 'Mechs should only be able to relay targeting data (to speed up the lock for far away allies) if they're all part of a C3 network.
Possible implementation idea for C3!

Cykes idea could easily solve issues of teamwork(limit number of 'slaves' per C3 Master Unit), mitigate the Sniperwarrior effect(Sniping takes planning and can be countered), increase the role of Electronic Warfare(BAP, ECM & C3 would form a nice circle) and increase the role of Modules(do you take a C3 Unit or not?), and make positioning more then just a mater of best possible cover or best possible speed.

Thoughts; because to me this sounds like a brainwave on Cykes part.

1. We already have fully-functional C3 networks. Originally, there were plans to take this out and make people equip C3 to get this functionality. I highly doubt that's going to happen now.

2. C3 is equipment that takes up criticals and tonnage, not a module.
