Hey Everybody!

Are you a new player? Are you totally lost? Do you need help/somebody to game with or advice? or are you an experienced player that wants to coach new players into mean-lean-mech-killing machines?

I've been playing since closed beta, been more of a lurker on the forums than anything, but I always take time to check in on the new player help forum. I have an idea that I think would benefit the entire community.

I noticed that in-game, a lot of new players are asking A LOT of questions, which is great. I always speak up and help them out. As an Atlas player I usually tell them to get behind me and shoot what I shoot. It gives me a bodyguard and they might learn some brawling/focus fire tactics. :D

anywhoot...the Idea is that we have a place where any and all players can volunteer to "Adopt a noob"

This game is coming out of Beta soon(ish?) and we will hopefully have a flood of new players. I think this type of a post would get some players into the game more easily, and keep them active.

As a founder I want to bring as many people into this game as possible and reach out to the new players. I like to think that this is the first spot new players come to for advice or questions, which is why I did not post this under outreach.

So I would like to invite everyone to come together, meet new people(crazy I know), teach somebody a few tricks you have learned and maybe learn something new in return.

Obviously everybody says communication is key to victory. hence why I use multiple 3rd party communication programs.

C3, Teamspeak3 and Skype is what I use, but you can find me mostly on C3. Don't be shy!
I'm Canadian so obviously I'm labeled as the nice guy, but in fact I am. Make your jokes now :)
http://www.downloadc3.com

So what do I run? Master :Founder's Atlas, DDC, Cataphracts of all sorts
Stalker 3F(not the PPC spam)
Highlander 733C

What do I fail with?
Jagermech 6S (not the Ac20 "jagerbomb")
Dragons
Lights

What Do I want to run next?
Cicada's

when do I play?Weekends and weekday Evenings, at least 4 times a week when I'm not working.
Timezone: Eastern

TL;DR?

If you're a new player and need help, or want people to game with, post below, download C3 or
Teamspeak3, Message me and we'll game. Be sure to include what Mech you like, be it a trial or your first purchase.

Already a casual/experienced player who shares my view? Post here and offer your services.

I know this will help everybody in the long run, the new players, the veterans, the hardcore, the casual and even PGI, which in turn helps us with new content.

All the best,

Squidy ~ your friendly Canadian Mechwarrior.
Thanks for your time. Hope this gets stickied ;)

What would we call a Padawan Mechwarrior? I like this idea, as a fellow Atlas pilot, a pilot I can teach to work with assaults (because let's be honest, a lot can't) is an exciting prospect.
However, I see ELO as being a problem though. If I were to drop with a rookie, he would be playing at my ELO ranking (please correct me if I'm wrong), which I like to think is relatively high :P, and would result in a few very tough first games for them.

Yes I agree that ELO could pose a problem, however say I take said Padawan Mechwarrior under my wing, with two experienced players, that can show them how a group works. They would learn how to call a target, focus fire etc. Plus there have been countless PUG games where I have seen trial mechs galore. ELO works much better now to prevent those top tier pilots from playing the lower tier new guys.

Heck I'm no pro, but I get more kills than deaths.

I agree that the ELO ranking of the hosting player could make for some tough games for a rookie, but I think the experience would be invaluable. Plus they would meet and make new friends along the way :P

I'd like to help light mechs, especially Jenners, with some private training.

Add me in game, and/or private message me, I'd love to help.

I volunteer to spend time helping new players understand and get better enjoyment from the game. Anyone looking for a Mentor Pilot to do some drops with can use the messeging system of these forums to drop me a line and we'll work out the timing.

I use Teamspeak 3 for comes and a channel on the No Gut No Galaxy server.

Well, I'm not good at this game (been failing this weekend with my YLW and X5.) Might be the lack of mech skills ATM, but both are relatively new. I have both the CN9-A and CN9-AL, both of which seems to hard to make them work.

Weaknesses for me:

Cataphract CTF-2X. Bought this mech during my first months of playing this game because it looks awesome. Honestly suck with it because of its ridiculous side torsos and low arm weapons. Was hoping to play it as a brawler but it seems it cant survive in a front fight. Sold it eventually.
Dragons - Even though I never purchased an actual dragon, I tried the community version, but I never had good success with it. Gigantic centre torso and weird play style in which it acts like medium mechs.
Anything with giant torsos.

Experienced in Centurions, hunchback (HBK-4SP), a bit of catapults (I use the cheese build... Hides)

I would personally really like an Adopt-a-Noob feature implemented in the full game. If you do too, add a comment to that effect in the UI social feedback thread. It's a place where PGI might actually listen if enough of us ask for a mentoring feature.

I call BS.

edit~ and oh, I think ELO would make it tough for a noob to roll with an uber vet. I got to play a round with Chuck Norris, I mean, Koreanese, the other night, and I did feel out of my league. either it was just not my night or I was just in a whole new level of dudes (ELO). but there were a lot of jumpjetting snipers and I in my med-short range mech got impatient and dumb... coulda been a few factors, ELO being one of them, astrology being another.

Don't be too unkind against people who are trying to help. Its not like anyone really knows their ELO anyway.

We could have every noob, after spending the time they wanted, could give a letter to the teacher to give an idea and/or a short comment. That would be a good way to identify good teachers and pilots.

I'm very interested in this idea. I'm not exactly a newbie as I've played most other iterations of MW before and know the BT universe relatively well but I'm still learning the teamwork aspect of the game. I would love to learn tactics and overall strategies from some who have been around awhile.

Problem - I don't own a mic, don't need one and don't really want to rush out and buy one for just one game. Is it possible to use C3 just to listen for team commands and still make the occasional target call-out via text? Or would that just tick people off?

For the record I'm a Jenner pilot and probably one of those that ICEFANG13 wants to "tutor". I have completed all but master efficiencies and usually do more damage than I receive. And sometimes I flame out in spectacular ways.... But in general I try to stick to the team when I'm not out scouting.

You don't need a mic, you can listen and type back. I would be happy to join you on a Teamspeak server, or you can use my merc group's Teamspeak, but I won't download C3 sorry.

Am I really the first "noob" to post in this thread? I really hate that there is no chat in the lobby implemented where you can just shoot the **** and find people to play with, the ingame chat during matches doesn't really help much.

I'd love to play with some experienced players sometimes, I'm currently running a catapult with 2xAC/10 4xMedLaser and I'm seeing first results  Tried with a Jenner before but that didn't work out too well....

Anyways, hit me up ingame! (I'm in germany btw... timezones and stuff)

I don't see it being a problem. a few in my group dont use mic's but respond to target priority calls, nothing wrong with it.

hate to burst your bubble but sadly no you are not the first. I had a player message me earlier today with questions. So at least this thread is getting some attention!

Note to new players, Don't be shy

Thanks Squidy. Also thanks to Koreanese for helping me figure out TS and how to form a group drop. But from now on I'll stay out of games with him - they are on a level beyond evil and I'm not ready to go there. Seriously - my fragile mind has been warped and I'm considering hiding in my closet for the next two days.

On a more serious note - if the newbie in question is the one leading the group would his ELO factor more into the equation or is it the highest of all combined? Just curious. Good luck!

I would suggest new players get on ts3 and play games in comstar na or eu.

Eventually, get into a unit as it provides a unparalleled support infrastructure - pilots that have played since closed beta / guides on builds, etc.

If I weren't in a unit, I would have called it quits months ago.

Good job OP.

This is great for folks like myself. Thanks for the offer. I just started playing and well... i suck. But gotta start somewhere. I have TS and my own Vent server. If someone wants to yap while playing let me know, i could use some guidance to find my best role in the game.

Can we do pre made groups?

Currently running a Raven 4X and 2X plus a X-5.

Thanks for the post again mate it helps.

Hmm I thought it was pointless to join those without a mic. Surely if many people like JovialJovian and my self used it wouldnt it be a waste if you can just type ingame?

I do like the help a new guy idea. I have had a quite few matches (123) but I am terrible. Normally I am not that bad at games but this game wow a steep learning curve appears to be very true for me. I think the thing that keeps me playing is that I like the Mechwarrior games but that can only go so far. I have asked for help here and those that responded did help but I still cant play this game well yet.

I no longer own the Jenner, sold it for some desperate c-bills.

Looking at the hours played i guess i am expecting too much too soon.
