Hmm I thought it was pointless to join those without a mic. Surely if many people like JovialJovian and my self used it wouldnt it be a waste if you can just type ingame?

I do like the help a new guy idea. I have had a quite few matches (123) but I am terrible. Normally I am not that bad at games but this game wow a steep learning curve appears to be very true for me. I think the thing that keeps me playing is that I like the Mechwarrior games but that can only go so far. I have asked for help here and those that responded did help but I still cant play this game well yet.

I no longer own the Jenner, sold it for some desperate c-bills.

Looking at the hours played i guess i am expecting too much too soon.

You're being too hard on yourself, if you're learning through playing in a vacuum the learing curve is much steeper than if you have team mates that stick with you through multiple games and can give good advice. That's one of the advantages of TeamSpeak/C3. You can arrange your team ahead of time and even if you're just typing being able to do it out of game between matches is good (the type chat in the main menu is awful). Additionally the team mate/adopt-a-noob participant WITH a microhone won't have to type and that will really help them giving advice and help in game.

This is great! If I adopt a noob I can send him out to try all the suicidal build and tactics I don't want to spend cbills and game time on!

Hi everyone,

first post here ;) I'm a noob, I have TS and I'd like to play with you guys. I play in the evening eu time zone and I'm not a nativ speaker, but I guess it is a good opportunity to improve.

From my first cbill I got me a Hunchback-SP. I run it with the standard 2xSRM6 and 5xML. I suppose I have to learn proper aiming by myself, but any help learning my role in the team is highly appreciated. When I stick with the heavies I feel useless for the majority of the fight since all I do is hide from long ranged weapons. So I usually either try to sneak in a hidden forward position or flank the enemy and hope for some rear shots. Unfortunately I'm usually toast if they find me.

You can go to the Heartland USA mailorder catalog/website and get a mike set up for nine bucks. Not concert quality but better than silence.

Hello Squidy,

I'm a new player who was lucky enough to find a (closed-beta) vet to show me the ropes a bit. I have been playing for 1.5 - 2 weeks now, and I'm simply loving the game. However, I see that the initial learning curve is possibly the steepest I've ever seen in a PC game. Thankfully I am very experienced with all game genres and even had my first Mechwarrior experience when I was around ten now in my mid 20s(orignal DOS mode MW -- thanks to older brothers, and a tech-savvy father.) So those factors have already propelled me to what I would say as is already being a pretty darn good Mechwarrior.

That being said, I truely appreciate your post here. You vets out there like Squidy absolutely need to invest some of your time into helping the newbies (like me) out until Piranha comes out with a very detailed tutorial that is IN-GAME. This is a genre that is pretty unique and most people will simply stop playing very early if they don't get the help they need.

Anways, I'm also looking for people to group up with and bang out some matches (and hopefully learn from.) So I'd like to extend the same invitation/group request to all Mechwarriors out there (vet or newbie) to enlarge my friends list ;).

Warrior Tag - Limitbreak

Favorite Owned Mechs -

Jagermech JM6 5- Dual AC 10/s + 3 MLs

Jenner JR7-F - 6 ML's + AMS system
-note, this was my first purchased mech -- I think I got lucky here as it really changed my ability to help out my teammates with spotting and assist damage. This is a GREAT starting point for all new players (IMO.)

Catapult C-1 -- This is my new work in progress...Trying out more of a support build with PPC's, SRMs, and thinking of adding some MPLs.

Nearly made me stop playing mech -

Some variant of the Awsome -- Not sure which one it was, but it was very expensive and I was just getting crushed over and over. Thankfully a few in the community pointed out to me (of course their own opinion) That the awsome is probably the worst beginner mech as well as pretty much a broken mech. Thanks for the info..I sold this guy.

P.S. Thanks again for this post Squidy, I'd Like to add you in game, please accept my request from Limitbreak

Thanks Squidy. Also thanks to Koreanese for helping me figure out TS and how to form a group drop. But from now on I'll stay out of games with him - they are on a level beyond evil and I'm not ready to go there. Seriously - my fragile mind has been warped and I'm considering hiding in my closet for the next two days.

On a more serious note - if the newbie in question is the one leading the group would his ELO factor more into the equation or is it the highest of all combined? Just curious. Good luck!

Koreanese uses lots of Cataphract 3Ds and so his ELO is so insanely high that all he can do is find poptart matches.

Personally I deliberately run troll builds now and then to keep my scores pretty modest. Keeps it fun. Sometimes I get matches like this one.

4 flamer, 4 MG Jagermech 6S.

Nah. But it's what I use to lower my ELO to keep it modest. For a while it was actually raising my ELO until the missile nerf.

That'll teach me. Now I want to build the damn thing.

I always wondered where you stand on the ELO chart. Sometimes I wonder if I was a hinderance to your ELO since at times I fail to carry my own weight.

I'm wanting to build that rig too. I'd have to sacrifice 2 tons of ammo for the AC/20 to stuff in 2 MGs and a ton of MG ammo. Eh, why not? *Goes to record it.*

Of course, with the MG Buff coming it will be unstoppable. Pretty easily outrunable though.

I really want to build it just to listen to all the little Sheldons whining in chat and the forums. "You're not taking this game seriously!"

"OK, read that sentence out loud, Sparky..."

That's okay. Just pugged a match in my 4 flamer, 2 SRM-4, 2 SRM-6, 2 ML Stalker with twin AMS. I'm bull rushing Atlases, Stalkers, Jagers, PPC rigs, and god knows what else. This is in a Tri-hue Orange Stalker!

Had killed the Atlas and went after two Catapults. One with streaks and lasers, the other with MGs and ER PPCs.

This is what I do to lower my ELO. >.> No wonder it's not working.

The other high score on our team had a K2 with twin ER PPCs and a Gauss.
My flamers, SRMs, and MLs did better than the typical poptart loadout. o.o

Come to think of it, my first Cicada purchase, the X5, is awesome! I really like it's mobility and it's awesome ability to harass and skirmish. Flanking is a lot of fun.
