I think Tegiminis is incorrect on his assessment of mixing ranged weaponry.

I play almost all mechs close to stalk. What I modify is their ability to utilize the weapons efficiently with heat (basically going DHS) while finding room for a few more tons of ammo.

The HGN-732 is a good example of a mech with mixed weaponry.

1x Gauss Rifle
2x Medium Laser
1x LRM/20
1x SRM/6

Out of 30 games, I have 1.5 win ratio and 2.5 kill ratio (my overall is 1.38 win ratio and 2.09 kill ratio) on that Highlander.

Now, I do agree that if you have a undersized engine on a larger mech to fit a short ranged weapon, then that is an issue unless you expect it to only be used in a knife fight map.

Mixing ranges too much is objectively bad. You want to have SOME close-range capability, but mixing the "primary" ranges is just inviting disaster.

With your Highlander build, what happens if you go up against two lights? You're ******.
