Shouldn't the patcher be checking to see that everything's correct?

It'll be fun to test. Usually I've only had very minor HUD corruption.
  • Mech name becoming nothing but WWWWWWWWWWWW
  • Mech name becoming coordinate numbers
  • Kill counts becoming a players name
  • Inverting capture colors (I'm the red team now muahahahaha)
Rarer but more problematic were
  • IFF not working and can't open map
  • My damage display not updating
  • RAINBOW MAP OF FABULOUSNESS
Can't wait for all of these to be gone!

Exactly what I got, but didn't test yet after patch.

very excited! thanks for the work to fix the HUD problems, I know they were incredibly difficult and time consuming to track down and fix.

After the hotfix I'm still experiencing "no IFF when zoomed" bug from time to time. No other HUD bugs though.
Repair tool shows no errors.

I reeeally hope this somehow accidentally fixes my framerate issues.

Speaking of which... Didn't you guys say there was better optimization on the way? I would totally get all my friends to play this game if I knew anyone with a computer good enough to run it.

Edit: Nope.

I keep seeing people complain about framerate issues, but I've never dipped below 55 or so. What hardware are you guys using, and can you run recent Cryengine 3 or even UE3 games? My spider sense is telling me at least some folks with "framerate issues" have unrealistic ideas of their computer's capabilities.

From bryans twitter:

"The HUD bugs were a result of undefined behaviour in CryEngines scaleform wrapper library, which took considerable effort for us to track down and fix...."

This is amazing. Every time I've encountered a library bug in something I'm working on it's been absolutely hideous to track down. I can't imagine what a pain it must be in a monstrous piece of software like CryEngine.

I seem to remember some piece of gnu software (I wanna say a compiler) where the "undefined behavior" the developers opted for was launching a game of Nethack.

I've always considered the HUD glitches to be like a Challenge mode in a sense.

LOL - same here. I just figured I was working for a really low budget corp that couldn't afford to keep their mechs maintained properly.

The choice of Flash as a UI base for Game Engines seems odd to me.

There are so many better standards (Canvas, SVG, or HTML5/CSS3) that it could have been based on.

Note: Crytek's decision not PGI's.

So far so good, had about 15 match last night and didn't encounter a single HUD bug.
My framerate also mysteriously improved by 5 to 10fps after patch.

Agreed, Mine jumped from 10 to 15 fps. I was really glad to see that as an added bonus!

As I've said before, when I say PGI screws things like this up more often than not I'd be happy to be wrong - and here I am, happy to be wrong about this hotfix. Thanks for fixing the HUD, rather refreshing to have it be a dependable game feature. I hate to say it but so far, there's not a lot we can depend on in this game so having one more is great. Also, I seem to have received a small FPS boost as well, not sure why but I won't argue it - altough curiousity would love to be satisfied, if something was done other than the hotfix or not.

Thing is, while the HUD bug monster is now rightfully slain, there's a lot of other things in dire need of fixing and the release date is only a few months away. Hope you guys crack those faster than this because I'm only here right now because this is beta. If this game is still as messed and dysfunctional as today when it hits the big "1.0" not even getting to play Clans will keep me here.

There was much rejoicing and requesting of an MC Sale so that PGI could sell MC!

AmIRightGuys?

As always, if PGI puts things I want on sale so their PGI-doesn't-understand-MICRO-transaction-system-pricing prices are closer to where they SHOULD be - we'll talk. Otherwise no.

Yeah, I always tell myself that my mech is running on Windows Vista when my HUD disappeares :(

Uninstalled and reinstalled clean (usually just for major patches) and the game ran great. Played a dozen or so games and had no hud issues at all. No graphics glitches (textures missing etc) appeared either. I would call this hotfix a success so far.

Not a single HUD bug since the patch, good job PGI! I kept my word and bought some MC since the patch actually fixed the HUD bugs. I spent my MC on a buccaneer paint job for my Centurion A. Now my Centurion A draws fire like never before, but it looks good doing it! Does suck that I had to purchase the buccaneer colors separately though.

I'm just glad things are fixed. CryTek's choice being Flash is... ugh. The thing is increadibly unstable the way they made it from the QA report. I'd rather go with HTML5. I'm pretty bugged by that. *rimshot*

One of 6 games I played since the patch and my paper doll was't updating the damage. I thought I was awesome for a minute until I dodged back behind cover and my paper doll updated all at once. From white to red internals in the blink of an eye.

I am happy wth the game... At the end of the day it is a game.

I like it, I play a lot (several hours a day) and if I get a match with NO HUD, no map no target lock, I usually say, F word!... GUT DMN IT! THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!!! and dare myself to bring out the best of my pilot skills. The purpose of a game is to entertain, to make you have fun, to enjoy it.

It is not supposed to cause any stress in any sort or to keep you complaining all day long. If that is happening to you this is not a game for you.

Remember try to always get the best out of everything!

(And stop complaining please... dont like it MOVE ON!)

thanks for fix. hud works fine, I don't remember anyone spoke about HUD bugz lately. Anyway something else appeared, Some people reported no DPS registration by server. Happened to me too. Actually, it was like this. River city, was in "upper base" Immediately after drop, walked about few steps and suddenly I could see everyone in front..so ofc, started shooting. Shown as hits but from that distance I couldn't target them so I couldn't see the damage. Someone asked ... Brk, why r u hitting that building there? ... I was like WTF ?? Yap, render fail... no buildings between me and them...even on all details and high render distance. I wonder how cool it would be to see so clear and so distant!

Then similar happen to my friends too. Great job PGI with HUD Fail at how we will even call this new thingy, it deserves some name?

Anyone had something like that?

I like your optimism and many a'time did I also fight on through the hud bugs as though my mech's systems were whack. My skill and attitude would make up for the difference! (usually not but hey)

Im not saying the bugs should not be fixed. Just saying that I play through them and not immediately disconnect and come to the forums to leave some scathing, immature and degrading insult against PGI. We are beta testers and we provide constructive feedback until the bugs are fixed.

Keep in mind that CryEngine 3 is vastly inferior to Unreal Engine 3 despite UE3 being 6 or 7 years older, and you'll start to see why I consider it a massive red flag warning when I see a developer choose such an obsolete pile of crap as CryEngine.

Whether or not they regret their choices we will not know as that would leave a bad taste between PGI and Crytek. Everything else though is perception.
