Hey all, I just hit elite on my Cataphrats, and would like to change up my Pop Tart. Quite frankly, either I'm not that good and pop sniping, or it's just not my style.

So I'm looking for alternate builds that don't involve sniping. I have a dual Gauss 4x, so not doing that either...

PS - I like Jump Jets.

Switch out the gauss for some AC/10's; put in a big xl engine, and you've got yourself a pretty decent hit and run heavy hitter. Use the jump jets to maneuver and to help get you in and out.

4 medium lasers and an AC20 served me very well for a while, but since the laser netcode fix a 4 large laser build is what I'm currently running.

My Build is similar to yours Indoorsman... However i have dropped the JJ's for more heatsinks and armor and switched the LL's to ER LL's. Its my favorite mech to run at the moment as it hits 84k with speed tweak so I can change angles quite easily... I also run in from the edge fire 3 aplha's and have the speed to bail cool down and change my angle. been having great success with it. I have opted for the ER's to ensure i am inflicting pain at all ranges I find it more accurate when Long Range Sniping as well.

I have my weapons grouping as:
Grp1 - 2 ERLL (both on left side)
Grp2 - 2 ERLL (Both on RIght side)
Grp3 - Alpha.

I switch mouse 1 between grp1 and 3 obviously when micro managing my heat.

I went 2 erppc(each torso) and an lbx in the arm, and 1 med laser in each arm.

ERPPC for long range punch, or to shoot over a hill as they are high mount. LBX in the arm makes it really really easy to aim it to splat people in the face. 2 med laser in the arms is perfect to track lights, and enough dmg to usually iscourage them from circle of deathing. the rest, engine, heatsink. i think I only put one ton ammo for the LBX.

No jets on this though. but it does a lot of dmg at many ranges, doesnt overheat unless you abuse the erppc and med lasers in close range, and LBX does good crits, and knock. Enough knock to jam an Atlas. My fav phract build so far.

Well that sounds good but I prefer having left arm, right arm, torso and alpha weapons groups. Can manage heat better that way and also fire those high up torso lasers when your arm lasers would hit the wall in front of you.

I swapped out the AC5s for AC10s, used ferros armor instead of endo steel. The amount of abuse I can take while dishing it out at good clip is pretty awesome. XL 300 engine going 69.4 clicks (no skill upgrade). 4 tons of ammo instead, but 14 DHS gives it (1.28) good cooling so you can keep on firing.

I took ferror armor over endo steel so I can have more armor per ton AND better armor protection. The difference between ferro/no-endo and no-ferro/endo is 2.13 tons. The ability to take abuse in an assault mech is better suited than the few extra clicks you gain by a bigger engine, or whatever else you want to do with the weight.

Ferro does not let you have more armor. Ferro makes the same MAX amount of armor weigh less. Endo-steel is better weight savings than ferro, so it's only good if you already have endo.

Has ferros been tested to provide better protection against energy weapons like in the descriptionÉ(question mark.. i hate blue keys)

FF does not offer ANY additional protection. It just saves weight like Endo. You take Endo first and if you can fit it and still need weight Ferro.

I've been running this on my 3D: CTF-3D

It's a little poptarty, but mostly a well-rounded brawler. So fun to use this thing in River City and some parts of Frozen City.

You're very wrong.

FF offers 14% more protection per armor point than regular armor, and also weighs less. Usually people just take endo and put more armor on with the extra tonnage, but if you're max armor, and have the build you need already, then ferro offers your mech a way of being more tanky.

No it doesnt, please dont spread false rumors.

You get 12% more armor per ton but it does not have a higher level off protection it just weighs less. At max armor the protection is identical FF just saves some weight and endo does this much better.

There is an armor cap, you cannot go over the cap just because you get FF. All FF does is let you reach the cap with less weight. No additional protection, only weight savings. Endo is better weight savings. Endo is better.

Indoorsman beat me to it, but the 4LLas/4JJ/340xl is really a lot of fun...

CTF-3D, X-Wing [LLas x4, 340XL, JJ x4, Endo, DHS x18]
