I am a few thousand XP away from mastering my last mech from my Founders mechs. I bought and mastered 4 Atlases ( :D ), 3 Catapaults, 3 Hunchbacks, and 2 out of 3 Jenners (last is almost done). I will soon be moving on to a new mech, but I find myself stumped at which one I will choose. I know that I can boat energy weapons with Stalkers and Awesomes, Poptart with Highlanders, a Cataphract and Trebuchets, ECM with Commando, Raven, Spider and Cicada but none really speak to me.

The Dragon is a suprisingly fast mech with the right engine in it making it a good medium/light hunter, I would choose this over a Centurion since they have almost the same hardpoints. Unfortunately I find that their hardpoints are horribly placed on these mechs.

I have played a bit with Stalkers and Cataphracts and do find them to be effective but I do try to be flexible and resist boating, unless of course I have enough tonnage to boat and be flexible like my 4 PPC RS with streaks.

There are only 2 announced mechs that will not be in the game, the Flea and the Orion and I'm not sure I like them either.

Centurion. It will teach you a lot. Master movement, gameflow, torso twist and on the fly thinking.

Just saw you cruising around in that YLW, looked pretty fun.

Yeah, I'm going to recommend Centurions too. My CN9-AL runs with this build
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...72c837d35b890e4

You could drop the streaks and 2 DHS for an SRM6 and 4, 2 tons of ammo as well.
Its a decent amount of Firepower for 98kph, and few mechs can take the brutal beatings like Centurions.

I've been using the Raven's, but I am not cut out to be a light pilot, so I am not terribly effective with it.

If you consider the Cataphact, the Illya isn't a bad Hero Mech to compliment that line (especially if you want a C-Bill booster in the line-up).

The Jagermech seems ok so far too.

well I just created some glorious chaos with my TBT-5J - weaved right through the enemy lines, tagging a ctf, popping a few in a catapult's face, p****ing off an Atlas and dancing with a Jager while my team hapily blasted the confused enemy to bits.

So it's not like you can only poptart in a tbt.

Really depends on what you want - if you want a hunter/killer go with the raven 3L (since you already have a JennyF, you should know the drill). If you seek a striker, go with the centurion - works even better than a HBK-4SP in that regard.

Otherwise you can load up the heavy and go blasting away in a highlander, or a stalker.

And you can always grab a JagerMech and go dual AC20, or 2ERPPC/4SSRM2, or 2xLB10X with streaks. Then there's the 3xUAC dakka machine (JagerMech or Muromets).

So you just gotta ask yourself what floats your boat.

SDR-5K

Why - Because being an underdog is a challenge and you might get an almost functional MG next week.

XL255
Standard Heatsinks (trust me, no NEED for DHS)
Ferro Fibrous
Endo-Steel
2 Jumpjets
BAP
X2 Tonnes MG ammo
X4 MG's
1 MPL
AMS
1 tonne AMS ammo

EDIT

Almost forgot - depending on your playing style:

Fuzzy Dice - If you're a cool ************
Wunderbaum - If you **** your pants when running around a corner and collides with a Steiner Scout Lance
.50 Cal Necklace - MOAR DAKKA!

Funny, I'm not a fan of light mechs although I perform very well with them. What I really want is an Annihlator, but since I'm a Lyran I might go for the Commando, Highlander or Awesome since they are more common. But since we are allied with the Federated Suns, technically I could go Cataphract, Centurion or Jagermech. I'd like to use mechs that are more associated with my faction, unfortunately Lyrans have been short changed by mech representation.

Centurion. It will teach you a lot. Master disappointment, failing at the metagame, fighting with only 2 mlas, and bitter thoughts.

Not a fan of the Centurion. I find the hardpoints difficult to work with and I found that when fighting against them, different sections are very easy to target.

Edit: Maybe if I find a magic lamp I can wish for a LAM.

The Cent does have one advantage: It can be hard to decide whether or not to core it or rip the arm off- at least for sadists like me.

Yeah, I'll usually run up behind one with my Jenner and blow off the right torso in one shot. If (more likely eventually when) I buy a Cent, I won't be waisting the tonnage putting a gauss in that right arm. Most likely will put an UAC5 or AC2 and load up 2 MPL and 3 SRM 6s.

Alone, a Spider isn't THAT impressive unless you're an excellent pilot. In pairs with pilots who simply know what they're doing, though? Oof... They can turn the tide.

Speaking from personal experience.

Every time I look at the various heavies, I don't see any frame where I'd be interested in more than 1 variant, so I'm content with my Catapults. I look at the assaults and see nothing I like more than my HGNs (I do have a D-DC, and it's fun, but the other Atlases do nothing for me when I look at them). I tend to avoid lights, didn't like the Jenner, but I like the 2D Stealthmando. I enjoy my Cents (especially the AL and the D), have a pair of Trebs (not sure about picking up a third, I just don't enjoy them as much as Cents), tried the 4G Hunchie (it screams target). And found that I'm not interested in the Blackjack so far.

At the moment, I'm content with my garage. So, I guess I'm just stockpiling C-Bills until something wows me.

Cataphracts are a great heavy mech and I enjoy piloting mine, my 3D is configured as a marauder and can deliver massive punishment when I'm on top form.

Jagermechs are also a fun mech if you like ballistic weapons, a pair of ac20s is nasty but having to use an XL means you have to play smart or die fast.

Really we can only tell you what we like, until you try a mech you won't know.

Jagermechs are great but there are basically 2-3 good builds amongst all of them, and the rest are for fun.

Well, as a fellow founder, I can tell you that the highlander is not that different from the Atlas, except for the jump jets (which are awesome when you have an ac/20 in the arm). A commando will be even lighter than your jenner, but you will get to play with ECM which could be fun. Honestly, I'd say go for the Awesome, especially if you want a challenge. The 9 series is a great mech, but the 8's will force you to change your play style, too, since you can't soak up center damage like the Atlas, don't have jump jets like the Cats, and aren't as nimble as a Hunchback. I think the Awesome will give you enough of a change from your founders mechs to be a fun change.

% In fairness, I should warn you that the Awesome is pretty much inferior to the Stalker for most practical purposes....

Catapults are fun. Then again i am a massive fan of the K2 (i was a Timberwolf pilot in Mechwarrior 2). But the potential of a K2 played well shoud never be underestimated, especially when working with the rest of the team. Ive brought down Atlases with my Nightwraith. All you need to do is remember to add an AMS.

Oh and BTW Lights are a big screwover for me - so fast and so hard to hit. I really, really hate them.
