In the battletech universe, lights and mediums are the largest segment of mechs on the field BECAUSE units could not afford to field all Heavies and Assaults.

In the battletech universe, designers have this uncanny habit of sabotaging their own mech designs by stacking ammo in the center torso, and only providing a single ton of bullets for the robot's main weapon.

Sure is a fun gameplay mechanic, yes?

I think you missed my point entirely. On of the tougher challenges PGI faces is the ability to develop a quality game and STILL conform to the battletech universe (licensing and stuff). A re-worked repair and re-arm would facilitate that.

You likely had both a premium account and perhaps a founders Atlas-D?(Otherwise why not use DDC as a missile boat).

So you had possibly two legs up on a freemium player who would bleed cash with the same setup.
Guilty. but if you saw my win... loss record I was on the losing side more than winning before I joined The Law. An I was ALWAYS able to repair. even when my side lost. I didn't use XL, I CASEd my Mech, I did lots of things to reduce my over head and keep my net losses affordable. Even with 11 tons of LRM ammo. With a K/D of .23 in the beginning You can bet I had some monster repair bills. When they were 100% not the exploited 75%.

lets attack this from a different angle entirely. what i'm arguing for is a community warfare system with a semblance of an economy, persistent mechs/damage/repair/logistics of supplies and travel. in other words, some measure of meaning behind capturing territory other than 'it makes your ppc, of which you already own an indestructable 50 units enough to last you 10 years of this game if it makes it that long, cost 30% less.' or 'it passively generates mc for you and makes another group of tryhards challenge you to a poopsock alarmclock match'

if PGI wants to call it an mmo, they can use this as a wonderful opportunity to actually make one, as opposed to diluting the term by using it in reference to a 16 player-match sim-fps. We did that in tesla cockpits in the late 90s, and nobody back then knew what the f an MMO was.

Again you are looking for clan wars. The quick pickup games are best left as they are.

first, i am a bad pilot. i usually get blown up. second i mostly pilot lights & mediums.
when they first walked out r &r i gave it a shot. it sucked. running in a light with an xl engine and getting cored every time meant that i was often in trial mechs trying to earn money to fix my mechs that i wanted to run.

earning 10,000-20,000 cbills a match after repair did not give me fun or immersion. it made me stop playing until they took it out.
all it did do was prevent me from piloting anything other than a light with lasers as primary weapons. and i could not upgrade my weapons until i had banked enough from 10 to 20 matches. to purchase ONE ppc.

Is it me, or are the same people who are against R&R the same ones who are for respawns and 3rd person view?

How many people currently go to the forum? A lot less than the old 500, prior to them deleting GD.

The poll regarding 3rd person had in excess of 3000 voters. That's 2500 more votes than we normally have posters.

This is your problem. The XL engine you had in yor Mech is an expensive piece of equipment to repair.

Why do you think it's a good idea to punish people who want to have fun? XLs already cost in excess of the mechs themselves. We need a tax on them, too?

@ Post Above ~ Why do you think we want to punish people? There are Real reasons to reintroduce this system that you ignore and spew hyperbolic and vitriol as a way to try to stop the discussion about it from happening and it isn't going to work, okay pal?

What the problem here is Vassago cannot read and comprehend what people are saying here and thus he just Cannot understand that we do not want the system that he hates 'oh so much'.

Apparently in his world nothing can be improved and reintroduced, once you're done you're done and out.

If the human species lived by those principles they'd surely be extinct by now.

See that is the problem Vass, I HAD fun even paying over 200K to fix my Mech. *shrug*

Also I pay tax on Conncer tickets, Baseball bats, gloves and Balls... That's a tax n fun. My tennis shoes (Taxed) my Computer I play the game on Taxed. I think it is fine to have to pay upkeep on my war machine. I did it for years on TT.

Uh-hu.
I also farmed 25 mechs in no time at all. I was making well in excess of 400k a game, after paying the tax. But the game was still mocked openly, and I couldn't get anyone new into it.

Then they dumped RnR, and - my god - we have new players! Frankly, all you're doing in this thread is sulk. It's not coming back.

Didn't you claim to have personally killed off the old R&R? Didn't you use the forums to do so? It looks as though some form of R&R is making a comeback.

Great you made your choice, now pay for it. It would be fun for me to drive a Ferrari, and if I CHOSE to do that, I would have to also pay for the insurance and maintenance that that choice entails.

Oh Noes! You mean that Gauss sniper has to have a DRAWBACK!?! The horrors!

while the PPC Sniper who doesn't over heat has none

Explain the sense in that.

Unless ALL weapons are penalized in the same way, any sort of R&R is a bad idea

I only played one mech during CB. Laptop of frustration. I have 3-4 now. It's ok that we disagree Vass, for the most art it is a free world we live in. I have been gaming for as many years as you have been alive (if no more), I have been paying for equipment and repairing equipment for the majority of them. *Shrug* I have had a blast playing most of those games. The original RR system had faults but it could have been made better instead of making the game easy to play. Once R&R was removed I put XLs in I put Gauss in my torsos I don't CASE, My K/D has dropped from a 2.93 to a 1.34 and I am still willing to test a good R&R system.

New players seem to be all we do have. I haven't seen many Lawmen on MWO in weeks.

I already said that heat scale penalties should be the drawback that PPC snipers get.
