ok PGI, you really need to give us BACK, since we had it in closed beta, the ability to bind our mousewheel up/down.

since you guys were kind enough to take AWAY our ability to modify the actionmaps.xml file and REFUSE to give support we can no longer bind those.

in doing so you have basically took away 2 of my weapon groups (4/5) since that is what i use them for and have now limited me to only 3 weapon groups on my mouse! this make heat control more difficult, i have had to rearrange ALL my mech's weapon groups and you have basically taken away some of the enjoyment of the game and added MORE frustration

i have been begging and pleading since the bind was taken away, why? i have no idea, and have wondered why it has taken this long to bring it back

instead we have people running around with 5/6 ac2 on a mouse that they can macro a button to and basically turn it into an ac2 gatling gun, which HIGHLY makes it unfair to those of us who use just a basic mouse/keyboard that is limited to what we can bind keys and buttons too.

this is just another example of the basic game play functions that SHOULD be on the top of the list instead of just sitting on the back burner while you keep introducing cosmetic #$@& that is of no help to functionality.

HOTFIX IT PLEASE!

I go my Mouse wheel set to be my Alpha Strike. Don't want that messed up. Ok...

Not sure what this thread is all about.

Check out the link in my signature.
Download the guide.
Check the very end of Chapter 3 to find a way to make use of the mouse wheel.

It still works, I'm using my mouse wheel currently.

This ****** me of as well.No more $ support from me till ya do. I sufferd through the hud bugs and the CTD and the freezing .taking away my permissions to fix my own mouse wheel and not fixing it is a slap in the face. Im half tempted to just fix it as I did before ./GRRRR

I have my mouse wheel up bound to group 1 ... and my mouse wheel down bound to group 6 ... what's the problem?

I generally put my energy weapons in groups 1 and 6 and both are on chain fire ... so when I just want to fire *some* of the weapons, I roll the mouse wheel. If I want to fire them faster, I roll faster ... If I want to fire them slower ... well ... you get the point.

Some people use the mouse wheel for zooming, which I do as well but I like my chain fire setup better.

While they're at it could they add a separate control option for zoom in and zoom out? I would love to be able to zoom in with mouse wheel up and zoom out with mouse wheel down like I use in every other game with zoom.

1.OP, bad place to put this post, having no relevance to game balance.
2. why does this thread live after Chemie tried to help u guys.

I have and still have mouse wheel binds from Alpha. I understand u would like a in game way to fix it, but till that time u can edit the Actionmaps like Chemie said.

Why can't you edit the actionmaps.xml ? it is in your user profile so it is game as far as I am concerned plus since you are so frustrated, why not?

<rebind device="keyboard" input="mwheel_down" index="1" defaultInput=""/>
mwheel_up

(Plus, mine was edited back when we were "allowed", are you sure yours wasn't too?)

the file you need to edit is "actionmaps.xml". the Default dir. is:
C:Games/Piranha/Games/MechWarriorOnline/USERProfiles/"your name"

open it with wordpad to edit

mine is set so mwheel_up is target, and mwheel_up is target. This is the line of code to add:

defaultInput="t"/>
</action>
</actionmap>
<actionmap name="mech">
<action name="m_toggle_zoom_mode">
<rebind device="keyboard" input="mwheel_down" index="0"

defaultInput="c"/>
</action>
<action name="m_next_target">
<rebind device="keyboard" input="mwheel_up" index="0"

keep in mind, that my bindings might be different. You must play around with it to work

i strongly suggest that, before changing "actionmaps" you copy the file, and rename it for a backup.

If you would like another way to do this (or if you dont understand the code or where to put it). Here is my FULL actionmap file, copy/paste, save the file, then start the game and change MY other bindings to ones you would rather have.

Spoiler

I hope this was some use to you guys, until they put it back in the GUI.

Yes please. Add mousewheel support and add a "zoom in" and "zoom out" command. I'll be able to bind those quite nicely and use the mousewheel click for something more useful. It'd be great.

I have had to uninstall/reinstall the game (per PGI) to attempt to repair repeated crash to mechlab issues. Back in the days of yore, the game installed to the Games/Pirahna Games/etc folder and you could edit the actionmaps.xml folder and all was good. If you install the game now, it installs to Program files (x86)/Pirahna Games/etc and the actionmaps.xml file in there has absolutely no relationship to the game.

I am able to edit the actionmaps file at work as I've always done since Closed Beta. But at home I'm stuck with no mouse wheel.

I can't believe its still not bindable but until then:

Autohotkey.

WheelUp::*buttonyouwantittopush*

I have mine set up for 2 levels of zoom. wheel up is all in, wheel down is all out. which is a modification of this script

Key bindings must be saved somewhere, and it sounds very strange if patched old installations use actionmaps.xml while new installations save them elsewhere.

While you may be right, I'd look around a bit more if I were you. Make sure you change it for the correct profile, etc. In the same folder you'll find attributes.xml, profile.xml and weapongroups.xml. Maybe you could search your disc for those files.

Sounds to me like you may be changing some default version of actionmaps.xml and some other actionmaps.xml is overriding the one you're changing; resulting to no change in game.

I resolved the issue by uninstalling, erasing all Pirahna Games folders and then reinstalling manually to C:\Games\...

I agree that the mouse wheel bind would be a nice thing to have. I never had it and eneded up buyng a new mouse specifically for this game. People should have to do that.

BTW, guys, If you can get one cheap, Razer Nagas work surprisingly well for this.

I got the logitech version, it's amazing. I cant think of a fps I wouldn't use this mouse for. MMO mouse? No. fps mouse!

OK, so we were told that mwheelup and mwheeldown would be added "soon" and that was back in May, it is now August. If it is against the TOS to modify the actionmaps XML file for this purpose (or any other) can we get this functionality added ASAP? Seems kinda silly not to support it as it has been a standard tool for mouse users for like eva eva in just about any game I remember playing...

(Also enough with the "Buy a better mouse or you just suck." B.S. Not everyone playing a FTP online game has spare cash to spend on a tricked out mouse, especially if you want them to spend $$ on MC.....)

If this has already been addressed then feel free to ignore my post...

Mousewheel bind is being looked at and will be properly implemented with community warfare. The bind will be rolled out in phases though:

Phase 1) The mousewheel is going to be acknowledged by us and its functionality will get revealed in a in depth post in the command chair subforum (no firm date yet but i will keep you updated)

Phase 2) The mousewheel will be featured in the keybinds menu, please note that you will not be able to bind anything yet. (roughly 2 months after phase 1 and once internal testing is done)

Phase 3) We will initially support binding "move forward/throttle" to the mousewheel (1 leg per turn) and let YOU guys get a feel for it.

Phase 4) This phase is still deep in the design stage but keep your eyes peeled on the official site because we have something really exciting to announce soon™

Binds scroll up to weapon group 3, down to 4. Change respective numbers to customize to your preferred group.

We lost the ability to bind the mousewheel in the launcher when they added the mousewheel zoom-able Battelgrid map. Ironically... having the mousewheel bound to other keys doesn't affect it's function in the Battlegrid. My mousewheel up/down is still bound in my settings.

Programmable mouse. I tried binding it, and it worked fine, aside from constantly registering a scroll every time I clicked it. ;) But I guess that depends on the mouse.

hmm, i would be happy with the ability to zoom in and out with the wheel - that would free the 3. button and it wouldn't be such a pain for that button - i killed 2 mice with this game already, always mouse wheel button. Seems that i zoom to much...
