I voted no not because I thought it was a terrible idea, only because I don't think it is necessary. AC/10 and LBX-10 both do 10 points of damage. One is spread out is all.
They have been messing with the spread I am sure they will continue to tweak that.
Besides I have seen a few pilots WRECK SHOP with LBX-10s and medium lasers.

What if the weapon had no "normal" range, and instead dropped its damage from 20 down to 0 up to a maximum range of 540m (or whatever its max range is currently).
But I am not sure. I still find it weird that the LBX has a longer listed range then the AC/10, but is effectively much shorter range. Potentially shorter ranged than an AC/20 even.
Currently the crit-seeking bonus only affects damaging items. I think the LBX should simply deal more damage to internal structure. That's still not very powerful, since about 2/3 of every mech'***** points are made out of its armour, not its internals, but it could be neat.

Its listed range is accurate and you can hit targets at that range, just usually only with one pellet if you are lucky.
Although it is an AC/10(LBX) imagine each pellet as a smaller AC round which would give you the increased range.
Thats what I get from it anyways.
IRL shotguns usually have much smaller spread than people typically realize. To give you an idea here is a shot of 00 Buck (typical defense round and the standard for the US military) at 20 yards.
Here is what 20 yards looks like for the sake of visual comparison.
So if Mr. Dumpster Co was a mech we could assume that it would translate to the target having that same spread at about 90 meters.
