I am unaware of any "space warping" ever mentioned in the Battletech universe, but I AM familiar with the term Faster-than-Light (F.T.L.) travel n said universe. To ME this implies that the speed of the traveler is, indeed, FASTER than light. You have no problem with THIS particular mechanic, I see.

Mathmatically speaking, it would be highly unlikely that humans would be the only sentient race found on over 1,000 planets that DO, in fact reside in the Goldilocks zone.

TL;DR:
In real life, the Law> mechanics, in a Game, Magic> handwavium> mechanics> the Laws of physics.

I'd take issue with FTL travel within a frame of reference using conventional travel.

Remember--the Universe is 13.77 billion years old. That's a lot of time for civilizations to rise and fall. I'm pretty sure it /has/ existed, I just can't be sure there are others right now at least in our own Galaxy. I'd like to believe there are.

I'd rather game mechanics simulate reality as best as possible. Hence why (as you agree) things like convergence being fixed (made much harder) or the 30 pt Battletech heatscale and negative effects implemented would do wonders for the game.

That being the case, if a heat penalty were applied to weapons dependent on the number of weapons being fired simultaneously (Alpha strikes), and that number closely approximated the slower heat dissipation caused by the thermal blanket, what would be the big deal in the MANNER in which it was calculated? The end result would be the same.
