I guess i could consider myself a bit of a dissenting minority here when i say this, but i'm a but worried that MWO is sticking so hard to the TT rules for things, partially because the way i see it, they do not seem to fit well for something that isn't an RTS or TBS, I know many of you are actually excited that they are adhering so tightly to the TT rules, but for some reason i do not view this as an ideal course of action

State your reasons.

Thinking TT adapts better to RTS isn't a reason.

All the damage and armour ratings and..well..much of the game is already set and balanced in regards to the mechs and game play.

Not sure how that "doesn't" work.

I agree with Bunny, I'd like to hear your reasons.

there needs to be balance , there is no dice tossing , so I think the Devs have a handle on it.

Based on gameplay videos we've seen, it is still roughly in the same vein as previous MechWarrior titles. Will there be differences, sure. But frankly all the minor differences are unlikely to be known in detail until an open beta or launch anyways, so at this point there isn't much we can do to worry about it.

Trust the fishies.

Cant you wait until you play the game to make a judge or speculate on how it will play?

Just a thought... :o

Well, the way things look, if you're coming into the game with no knowledge whatsoever, it'll still be a pointy-shooty sort of game. The TT stuff will take care of itself. There's not going to be a move-phase, then an attack phase. All the TT stuff seems to happen behind-the-scenes, with the exception of the MechLab, of course. But you don't HAVE to use the MechLab. I've never played the TT game, and have only played MW3 and 4. That being said, I'm excited to see how things run with this. Heck, after that horrid console disaster lackluster console attempt (and yes, I played both, for those who may step in to defend it), I'm just happy to have damage apply to separate body parts again.

it's always better to take from the source, keep the basics and essence of the sources, and change the rest to your liking

I'm perfectly fine with them modeling the foundation on tabletop because tt has been around for a very long time. people are familiar with it and it already has a long history of success and failure, which means in terms of gameplay the piranha guys have it easier than starting from brick one.

I, for one, wouldn't be here if they weren't using TT as a basis. That's not to be cranky, but I'm looking for a good game, not another flashy but vapid shooter (there are so many out there, so why 'mechs?).

Certainly things are going to be modified (the devs have said as much and it is surely necessary: TT needs to be translated to work properly), but most of what is worst in previous MW titles has been due to straying a bit too far from the TT roots (heat/ammo etc.).

Old MW titles still do what they've always done: time to make it a little more interesting. What you should worry about is them making the same thing you've already seen (they're not; that's clear).

Add me to the list of people uncertain as to what your concerns might be originating from the tabletop game into online play.

I can envision one: I would vastly prefer a simplified "your cockpit is your lifesupport" system than worrying about a hull breach from any hit while fighting in a vacuum.

I suppose setting fires as a tax on people a few years behind on their hardware and driver updates would be mean.

On the other hand, if I have mech with hands, I might want ot uproot a tree and go clubbing.

As for things from the TT I don't want to see, there is only one big one: inferno missiles.

These are great when each player is controlling 4 or more mechs on the table, but when you only have your own mech to pilot, having some stupid Commando sneak up on you and force you to shut down would be frustrating as heck.

No one likes game mechanics that prevent them from playing.
