I don't get the point of this thread. Who ever said that an LBX-2 would be good against small targets? Is this about people who say the LBX-10 is good against lights?

Yes, actually its bad against lights and peps don't get it.

Imagine it in MWO.

2 Pellets and spad like hell.

Wow.

What a weapon.

Gigantic range and you couldn't hit a barn on top of a barn.

On that note, the smaller series might actually be less bad against lights than the larger ones because of fewer pellets spreading out into the wind (more hits, relatively speaking, I'm assuming that the spread is slightly tighter because of fewer pellets). Of course, concentrated/pinpoint damage still wins in the end.

It could kill a VTOL in 1 hit. Could get lucky and hit a fuel tank or cockpit through armor too.

1 pt of dmg to the head might be enough to knock the mechwarrior unconscious.

None of those things are in the game, but neither is the LB2 X-AC, so what's the point of this thread?

LBX weapons are worthless until PGI decides to allow them the option of firing either slugs OR shotgun type rounds...

The LBX-10 should have been introduced with the ability to function as either an AC10 or shotgun version LBX10.

All I will say is that PGI's inital LBX-2 implementation would like be a matrix effect where a shotgun of two bullets would miss your head from point blank while the bullets sail between your ears. That's how accurate it would be.

It's useless based on what?? It doesn't get kills easy, but it dishes a truckload of dmg. a rof drop would make it rather dangerous.

Edit: if we had the lbx 20 (i know, timeline) the damn thing would be op......

Well don't worry too much. The only way you'll be seeing LBX/2 is if you're in the Clans, until 3058.

Amusingly LBX/2s were solid weapons in Living Legends for specific roles. If they ever add an airstrike that's not an hilarious joke / allowed to be shot down, they'd sure have a good niche.

I'll tell you what I think about when I think of the AC/2:

I think of about 6-8 of them on a heavy or assault mech.
I think of 12-16 pellets flying out every half-second into a 2km range cloud of metal.

Hopefully PGI will keep the spread very small, in which case you've got a lighter AC/2 that really doesn't spread damage more than it's non LBX counterpart, since the AC/2 already spreads damage like crazy.

On the flip side when I think Clan technology I think I'd prefer 4 of those wonderful 6 ton LRM/20s. With a Clan 'mech, that'd leave you room for a whole other set of primary weapons.

God I have no idea how they will balance the Clans.

No kidding.
Clan LRM20s, which means they're 1000m range Streak-20s with the current missile coding.
Clan ultra AC/20s.
Clan Endo which only takes 7 slots.
Clan Ferro which is 20% more armor/ton rather than 12%, and only takes 7 slots.
Clan XL engines, so you can XL and you have to lose both side torsos to die still.
Clan DHS which only take 2 crits each.
Clan ERPPCs that have better range, weigh less, only take 2 crits, and deal 15 dmg/shot.
Clan Pulse Lasers that have similar range to IS non-pulse lasers, with higher damage.

Clans are bullcrap.

In all questions regarding Clan Tech, the devs seem to reply: "We get ready to talk about Clans closer to release" which I almost interpret as either:
"We haven't looked at it yet, how hard can it be?"
or
"Holy *****, I have no idea how to fix this mess, who did come up with this crap?"
