I hate to say this, but a lot of the stuff Paul/PGI has done is more or less set in stone. Outside of 3rd person (which isn't even available yet), ECM changes have been set in stone, and has yet to budge much on the whole.

I mean, do you realize how much effort it took to get them to change MGs? Even the projected buff truly is not enough... but just getting them to move "the balance needle"™ took quite a bit of time and effort.

^this.

Also, regardless of wording, the thread by jeff was making a valid point. If the Devs don't want us to comment at all, ever, on proposed changes, then they should just keep leaving us in the dark like they have been. If they want feedback like we're giving them, then they should stop being so defensive.

They could stand to acknowledge that many other ways to re-balance PPCs exist, and explain why they haven't attempted to do so already.

The real root of the problem is their inability to admit mistakes, combined with their unwillingness to make smaller, incremental balance changes which would be less likely to make those mistakes huge ones.

This.

And they think ECM is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

What's going on? I leave for 4 days, and everything related to the game blows up.

Well, on this and on other game forums I have heard that calling out the devs, or causing a ragestorm or whatever, doesn't get you to make your point any better and will not reach the devs.

But I believe this is just something the developers on those games like to claim to avoid it happening too often. Because I've seen it work to get responses quite a few times.

Of course, getting a developer to reply in your thread might not give any actual results in the game. But can it hurt your chances?

Just because things change occasionally when there is a rage storm, it doesn't follow that a rage storm causes things to change.

Questions and Answers is where things get changed here. Dev's might come here and read the posts (or at least have the good ones filtered directly to them) and get an idea and implement it in some form but that doesn't mean they have to give anyone credit or even acknowledge a post or a user's idea. In Q&A it happens and I think that's commendable. A lot of other forums don't even come close to that level of interaction.

There's no way I'd be in here reading posts if I were a dev. I'd be getting a forum mod to forward me the very good ones occasionally which I'd probably have to check in my own time because at work I need to be working on the game. And then I'm expected to respond to any that give me even a flicker of inspiration? Seriously?

We've all been frequenting game forums for as long as there have been game forums. How many times can you really name it when any forum-wide rage on any game has got what it wanted? What about those times compared to the amount of combined posts in a forum? It happens less than 1% of 1% of the time. And I'd be willing to bet that most of the times it does result in a change, something was seriously broken in a recent patch and would have been fixed anyway (LRMageddon vs. ECM for example).

No its not the right way to go about it. I urge everyone to report the troll and send his posts to K-town where they belong.

Fixed it.
(I think Paul was just throwing a bone out there to show they were at least looking at it; that's why he said not set-in-stone and not to fly off the handle.)

I do wonder though, if it was just a bone-toss, why toss out an idea that we already explained was a poor idea in closed beta? The discussion was had, the points were made, and the "canon boats" were spared the nerf bat. Why throw a bone we've already chewed bare long ago?

That's an excellent point. History shows they measure voice of people not by creativity, or fresh concepts, but by simple volume.

If the game is driven by people who want to just get by in their pug playstlye and die slower while clicking two buttons, the end result will be a game what does just that, and nothing more.

Have some cake? :)

Well, my thread got a dev response...it called for better client-side optimizations for lower-spec systems. However, that was before the April 2nd patch that nuked my FPS so I do feel slightly betrayed.
