Last night I was in an Alpine Peaks assault-mode with my 3M "Ninjacow". Was scouting out around beyond where the radio tower was when I see us starting to get capped. A Jenner and I start back, but due to the long distances, when we arrive our base (the upper one) is at about 25% and both an enemy Jenner and Dragon sitting on it.

Started dodging and weaving around the base, hoping to stay on it long enough to get some reinforcements... managed to damage both of the enemy mechs enough that the Jenner finally broke off (with our Jenner in pursuit) leaving me with the Dragon. And of all the mechs... I have to fight the heavy that isn't a slowpoke.

Regardless, I couldn't leave the base or it'd be capped (it's now at about 10%) and reinforcements are nowhere to be seen... I don't even have time to see what we have left on the field... The Dragon and I trade glancing shots as we circle each other, though thankfully, the pilot either starts to lose his nerve or just wants to get some distance so takes a few short runs straight out from the base... so each time I get a small breather where I get to take a few potshots at his back (my 3M's favourite target).

Finally, he goes down. Our base has a sliver left. Team chatter indicates that my allies are capping their base... and that makes me feel good. I've held off the tide! Then, a few seconds later... "nope, we're dead." The rest of the enemy team has returned and killed our capper.

I check the team listings... I'm alone vs 4 enemies. I'm in bad shape. CT orange, one leg orange, the other yellow, one arm yellow. I still have my ECM and all my weapons (3ML, 1LL) but I don't have a hope.

I'm torn... do I expect them to charge at the base and try to cap it? It wouldn't take much to knock me over... or will they sit on their base and wait for me, as all they have to do now is ride out the clock.

I decide I'll try to go take a look without getting too far from my base. As I'm heading out, an AC round nicks me from somewhere to my left... I spin and see a 'phract standing on one of the high ridges, heading towards me. I duck behind the cover of that tracked transport thingy and then keep going... up above the radio tower ridge.

"Will he go for me, or for my base?"

That last sliver must have looked mighty tempting, I figure, so I turned around and headed back. Sure enough, I see the 'phract about 500m ahead, pushing towards my base, presenting me with his wonderful, shiny, vulnerable back. I unload everything I have. He keeps going. He knows he just has to step over that boundary to win... I unload again. He's still up, but smoking. I figure he will certainly at least turn and shoot once... nope. He keeps going. I fire again... and he skids to a halt on his face, just a few short feet from the base boundary.

Lots of congratulatory radio chatter ensues.

But... game isn't over yet. Now there are three, and I don't know where they are, and there's 3 minutes left on the clock. What to do..? My dead comrades urge me to go for it.

At this point, I'm living on borrowed time, so I take the long route to the enemy base, hoping to sneak up on them and at least get a last alpha in before the inevitable. Ninjacow is held together by magic and improbability, at this point.

I come up on the enemy base from the south and round the oil tanks... right in front of an enemy stalker, which finally puts the cow down.

Still, a fantastic fight. I keep replaying how I might have approached that base differently, but I know the outcome would have been the same, with 3 enemies sitting on their own base, waiting for me.
