Title says all, Assaults can easily keep any light mech in front of them no trouble whatso ever, Hell I run with 10 or less armour on my back on every mech I play, Assault or not, because of this reason alone.

All mechs becomes too agile, lights included. PArtly due to the over the top XP bonuses, but also due to engine size effecting agility way more than is good forcing people to up engine rather than making a tactical choice on engine size.

Is this an offer to slow the slowest mechs even more???

Instead doing prime role of light mechs - SCOUT AND INTELLIGENCE GATHERING, targeting (tag) and cap bases.... etc light mechs want to win against ATLAS/HighLander

Edit

No Offence

Definitely not true, The only way i've been able to get a light infront of me where I can shoot it for a half nanosecond is by slamming the breaks, turning the other way and swinging my head around 180 to the other side.

Capwarrior is boring, and who tags? LRMs are garbage. Assaults are supposed to have some kind of downside, and being slow... 60kp/h isnt slow since most assaults try to reach that.

[Redacted] I play Stalkers all the time so Yea I know how easy it is to kill lights with it.

The light mech isn't an invincible fighter, its a helper.

still want to see mech agility more tied to the mech itself rather than the size of the engine.

I play with Karr, and he runs plenty of slower mechs. A lot of the larger mechs turn very quickly. Even back in the day I never though lights were an issue for my Founder's Atlas, just need a couple large lasers in the arms and you're good to go. Now, I think some of the Stalkers don't need slower turning speed, maybe just the 3F, but I think reducing the mobility of larger mechs would go a long way towards helping mediums out.

While I have certainly contributed to this myself, it's ironic that so many of these threads devolve into "assault pilots vs light pilots" when I'm sure 90% of all MWO players play all 4 classes.

When I argued that the Raven 3L, at the height of its power, was a huge problem, Raven pilots accused me of being a dumb assault pilot without skills. "Just aim at the legs, you *****!"

When I argue that PPC Stalkers and other alpha strike assault mechs are a huge problem, assault mech pilots accuse me of being a no skill light pilot who doesn't understand the concept of speed and evasion. "Just don't get hit in the legs, you *****."

Note: This post may contain moderate levels of hypocrisy.

Dunno what you're doing but I can easily stay out of line of fire in my spider v anything above 60 tons.

Although I have to admit JJ helps a lot in maneuvering but when I play my main mech, Flame, I have trouble with some really good light pilots that actually know how to stay out of my firing arc. Not the ones that just run in big circles or cover but ones that can adjust speed and heading and compensate for any movement I make.

It's those guys, the ones that actually know how to effectively pilot a light, that is my motivation for playing my spider. I want to be as annoying as they are.
So far I'm getting there but will die if I make a silly mistake or get too fixated but I say no to making it even easier to kill a heavy in a light.

In my Ravens I can turn 'n burn quite well and keep most of my time within an Assault's rear arc, and that's more than enough to chew them to pieces.

Currently Assaults benefit the most from the current state of Alphas, but that's a reason to look at boating, not at Assault's mobility. However...

I am definitely for this. Agility isn't the same as speed, and the way this is in game now annoys me.

I told you to run 350+ engine atlases.

You didn't listen.

I suppose if Assaults and Heavies were slightly (to more) more cumbersome we may actually see some useful mediums.

I agree. Bigger engine should confer a maneuverability boost but it should be based on a sliding scale depending on tonnage.

This would also serve to buff the lighter mechs of a class like awesome and dragons compared to their larger peers.

I don't think they need to nerf torso twist speeds on assults. The stalker and atlas torso twists are pretty dam slow and it takes them forever to line up their torso mounted weapons.

Sometimes you get lucky and able to dodge an alpha from an assult mech, sometimes you don't.

Stalker specifically has a more limited torso twist. Considering it's silly size I wouldn't complain about any troubles the stalker is having. Atlas has a normal torso twist. The only thing limiting its turning is its engine size. As soon as you put a bigger engine than the standard 300 in the Atlas it suddenly starts turning just fine. I tend to run a 350 and lights can't stay behind me. At least not if there are only one of them.

I do feel this is something of a problem. An assault that finds himself isolated should be in bigger trouble 1v1 against the lighter classes than it currently is.

If a light or medium can't deal with an assault in the most advantageous tactical situation possible then how are they to be effective when the assaults group up in lances as they should?

No way. When me and my bro play our lights, we actively hunt for loner heavies and assaults. They're our main meat. We *** at their legs cos you can't torso twist out or leg shots. It already is pretty easy for us to take down a heavy. Assaults are even easier.

The only heavy that gives us trouble in our lights is the ac40 jäger. One of those bursts can leg us or seriously hurt if we're particularly unlucky or playing stupid.

If it were any easier to take down a loner heavy/assault I'd quit my Flame tonight.

Sounds like a 2v1. Of course you can beat them if you have twice the mechs.
