Mostly it is simply all good. A nice transition of a favorite game. There are always going to be a few things that i think would improve the game so i made a bit of a list.
MWO really does need some form of in game voice chat system. I realise it has been mentioned already, but the improvement to coordination of random groups if each person in your team was automatically assigned to a temporary team voice chat channel would seem to me to be overwhealming. It seems to me to be the most direct step to improve the quality of the game experience.
Also a toggle option for my TAG to turn it on and off. I have also heard others wishing for a similar toggle for their machine guns and would probably want the same if i used them.
I could be mistaken but you do not seem to be able to spend exp on mechs you have owned once you sell them. This makes it quite an inconvenience to master a type of mech. It would be much better if you could stockpile the needed exp and sell the mech, then spend it later once you have master the other two types.
Any mech variation that moved and upper leg actuator from the leg slots up into the left and right torso. Even if it took two torso slots and only gained one extra leg slot.
The intention being to have three open slots on the legs to let you mount double heat sinks and give your mech the benefits of water cooling.
I was under the impression SRM streaks are not supposed to fire if they would not hit. I personally do not think they are supposed to fire when out of range either and it does not seem to be functioning that way.
Aerospace fighters.
I am imagining a vehicle that enters the battlefield from one edge and passes over the battlefield to exit the other side. While it is on map the player in control would have top down view over the battlefield and fire weapons down at the ground, call targets, fire at other fighters etc.
Mech mines as a consumable.
Melee weapons.
More information on mech quirks at the purchase menu. It wasnt untill long after i made my initial mech choices that i found out there were subtle differences in handling between different variations. As more and more of these quirks are added it would probably be useful to add a page of statistics on turning arcs and other similar statistics that a player could choose to examine before making their choice.
The ability to buy mechs without equipment. You can sell and keep the equipment so it seems logical to me that you would be able to buy them striped of gear as well.
More "mission" style scenarios. For instance something like the dropship missions or the train guarding missions from the older games.
I would quite like the idea of eight or sixteen of us going against a fortress or military base, guarded by a small army of server controlled bots or a series of mounted turrets. Perhaps a maze style complex with randomly spawned defenses so it would be fun to replay.
An indoor mission, something like a multi story mech garage or a mining facility, or a spacestation, or an oil rig.
Weekly Solaris Vii tournaments..... Perhaps with rotating arenas and special hazards. Stuff like.... Sixteen mech free for all in an area the size of football field. Flamethrower and chainsaw room. A fight on narrow bridges over a chasm.
Time trial, one hundred robot drones with one HP and an SRM 1 launcher each, and a high score chart for each mech type telling who got the best times. Daily, weekly, monthly, and best ever scores recorded.
I have always thought macros were generally banned in online games and was suprised to hear they are not here at MWO. (In some ways it seems like an admission that the game is not functioning effectively.) I dont really like the idea of other people getting a technical advantage over me, nor do i feel a desire to install modifications to give myself an advantage over my opponent. To me it goes against the entire point of competitive gaming and would make any victory i did win against an opponent hollow.
I do however see the value of the benefit they feel they desire. Given the high tech nature of the MW universe it makes sense that the equipment has management software that would provide a similar role.
The best option as i see it is to formalize any good macros and include them as selectable options in game. Then everyone would have access to the same options if they choose to enable them.
More statistics are always good. Perhaps damage taken on the score page, a damage taken vs damage dealt and damage dealt divided by your tonage, most damage dealt and taken in one hit..
A rejoin feature if you are disconnected. Even when MWO is out of beta there will still be network issues and such for players, a function to jump back in if your mech is still functioning would help both you and your teamates.
Other voice options for the onboard computer. Even the option to play your own soundbites from harddrive for certain events would be fun. I want my light mech to sound sexy, and my stalker to have a british accent.
A different variant of the volcano map where it is active. The center is a lava pit and streams of hot lava pour down the sides of the mountain. If you step in it you take ongoing leg damage, if you fall in somewhere deep you take damage until destroyed. Maybe even have the lava flow increase half way through the time limit.
I heard someone in chat say that copies of fights are kept for a short time. If this were true, an option at the end of each battle to download the fight replay would be popular with people that had done really well in the battle. Of course you would have to consider bandwidth if the replay file were large.
Some form of instruction information available during the training grounds. While i have played the game in earlier incarnations a lot have not and judging by some of the things i have heard new players say some of them could use a basic mech combat tutorial discussing the "R" key and other subtle functions.
It is certainly reasonable that your zoom and night vision turn off when your mech shuts down, but it really should start up again when the system reboots. A modern BMW can remember individual drivers preferred settings, i think my battlemech should be able to as well.
ER Tag laser. Longer range, heavier, more crit slots.
I have been jumping on a lot of mechs heads whenever i can and have been a little disapointed with the result. I realise it is probably because MWO is true to the damage system in the tabletop game and my medium tonage mech is taking more damage than the large tonage mech i am landing on, but still a disappointing result. It seems to me the damage system in the tabletop game is optimized for turn based combat where the act of jumping on something is simply a matter of saying you jump and moving your mini, which is ok for the tabletop game but does not reflect the piloting difficulty of landing on a moving mech. I realise a lot of people would disagree with me but i would like to move away from the official damage procedure and making it slightly more benificial for the jumping party. Either less damage to the legs of the jumper or more damage to the torso of the one landed on. I would even pay two ton and pair of critical slots for a set of armored boots that minimize the damage i take to my legs.
Unless it is already doing it automatically i would like to be able to prioritise the order my ammunition is used. I would hopefully have used all the ammo in my arms and torso up before i took enough damage to critical it, and still have my centre torso ammo for late game when i have lost both arms.
Take off the arm of an atlas as well as the shoulder actuators, then mount a long tom in the side torso. It would target the ground with a holo-circle and drop a area effect blast there a few seconds later, or you would switch to map screen and fire it from there by targeting a point on the map.
You should release it premade as a hero mech. Also, it would be great PR if you were then to give me a percentage of all the MC spent on it, which i would go and spend on mech slots and hula girls so you would get it all back the same day. Everybody wins.
Anyhow, that is all i have for now, if i come up with anything else i will add it.
And thank you, for bringing one of my favorite games ever online.
