Is It 3-Variants Per Weight Class, Or Is That A Lie?

Every now and then, I see someone say that the mech efficiencies only require 3 variants in the whole weight class in order to access Elite or Master tiers.

Well I've got 3 master lights (all the Spiders), and 2 full-basic Jenners, and I don't have the Elite tier available.

I experienced the same with 3 mastered Catapults as I was mastering my Cataphracts. I had to get basic on all 3 Phracts before I could get Elite, and all 3 Elite before I could Master.

Same with my Cicadas after Mastering 3 Hunchbacks.

So why do I keep seeing people say this, and no one corrects them? It's not true. To get Elite, you have to have 3 variants of the same chassis with all Basic efficiencies, and 3 Elite variants to unlock Master tier.

It's 3/chassis not 3/weight class.

3 variants with all basics done per chassis for to gain access to Elites. 3 variants of any chassis in a weight class fully elited to gain access to master.

Example: If you wanted to get the master for the CN9-A Centurion you would have to get the basics done on the CN9-D and CN9-AL to unlock access to the elite skills for all three. Say you have already gotten all the elites on two Hunchback variants that you currently own and you dislike the other CN9-D and CN9-AL. After getting the all the elites done on the CN9-A you can sell the D and AL while still being able to research the master skill on the A because you have the two Hunchbacks. If you do not have the master on the Hunchbacks you can get it for them as well.

Hope that helps clear things up.

Okay, so it's half true. It's kind of a terrible implementation of a terrible system, but at least now I know how it works.

It's a filler system we were supposed to only have for a short time.

It's an MMO so there must be some form of grind involved.

Any one can unlock basic on a mech, takes dedication and time to master one.
