Guess everything's said so far with many good opinions/posts.

Just to add my humble one really quick (which concurs with most of the above ones):

1. Catapult K2 - either quad PPC, quad LL or dual Gauss
  • will never get old

2. Cataphract 3D - 2-3 PPC + Gauss
  • only buy this one if you plan on using JJ's
  • it's garbage without them + none knows when/if PGI is going to nerf JJ's
  • actually an even better mech than the K2, but not sure about its usefulness in the future

3. Stalker 3F - either 5-6 PPCs or 6 LL
  • very durable
  • solid as the K2

Can't really go wrong with any of them. :)

I just recently played a 6x PPC myself and put a quick guide on my blog. Check it out here: 6x PPC Stalker Build

Hunchback 4P, equipped with two or three ER PPCs, standard 200 or XL 250+. Unlimited ammo, fastest energy/ballistic possible.

Hunchback 4H or 4G, Gauss + 2 PPCs + lasers on the side.

K2 Gaussapult. Some will argue it's not good, or obsolete, but that's like saying the AK-47 is not good or obsolete.

worry about double heatsinks last, you will survive without them, but when you finally get them it will be much easier to fire the lasers continuously. The purpose of the two medium lasers is to finish, sometimes you can save yourself from taking some damage, as well as saving amunition, by finishing that last 4-10 hp with some lasers while your gauss reloads.

I will argue that this is more new player friendly than a ppc staler or what not, the weapons have good placement, heat generation is a non issue, very straight forward, purpose built loadout, on a frame that has fantastic torso twist and provides a very forgiving environment for dealing with mediums and lights. just about everything will drop in 1-3 hits, everything that doesn't can be finished with the lasers. oh and the 4x zoom is not essential. it's useless at long range, but will assist in acquiring headshots at close range if your sensitivity is low

For a Sniper Stalker, outfit Large lasers WITH PPCs, either ER or not is your choice. Gaussapult is also a very good choice as you can hull down due to the fact that it's hard points are above the cockpit.

With regards to that, each class also has it's set of tonnage limits. Medium class ranges from 40-50 tons while heavies range from 55 - 70? tons. The heavier the tonnage limit, the more you can fit on your mech (loadout, armor), but also requires a bigger engine to move at higher speeds.

Actually mediums range from 40-55 tons and heavies from 60-75 tons

CPTL-K2 hands down for beginners. Already out of stock, you have all the equipments you need. Just some DHS and Endo Steel upgrades needed, save some money then fit in a good XL engine.

It's also quite beginner friendly. I especially love my catapults :P (I have K2 and C1 :D)

I'd rather say go for 4 PPCs than 5 or 6. Your alpha might be smaller, but your cooling is way better and you can take way more shots at the enemy, in the end getting a better DPS. At least that is what I feel like after testing out several amounts of PPCs. And it is still big enough for one-shotting cockpits. I like to add in SSRMs for the Lights that just love to come in close after seeing a PPC Stalker (but not getting a weapon readout) and think they can hug me safely. 4 SSRMs very quickly convince most of them to go elsewhere - and when they run, you often get a decent chance to shoot them. Also, 4 PPCs allow you to use a standard engine. The Stalker's pretty prone to loosing side torsos and the "arms" don't make good shields with that long nose.
