So on a tourmaline desert map, I brought my mixed range Atlas D (ERLL, 2 ML, AC20, 2ALRM15s) and waltzed just to the east of the center of the map in valleys looked up at the enemy jumpsnipers to my left who didn't have a clue. I locked on, but decided not to fire. I was walking next to them. Walked all the way to the enemy base (only damage I took was my own team mate shooting me in the arm at the very beginning of the match) and hopped on the cap.

They sent back their Jenner.. who immediately ran away after I sent LRMs at him on his way in... He wasn't having any of that.

TL:DR
I "fast-capped" the enemy at 56kph on the largest map with no ECM.. because they were too busy being skilled snipers to look to their left or right.. or do any scouting. I walked right next to them.

You could call it trolling.. I suppose it is; if the behavioral standard is to refrain from scouting, and get tunnel vision- and to not take advantage of it..

(In the end my team ended up flanking them on the other side once they figured out they were being capped by something a bit heavier, and picked off about 5 of them before joining me on the cap.)

Stupid is stupid.

Has nothing to do with tactics, strategies, mechs, or weapons.

Could you clarify that? I'm a little unclear.

Duelests don't get they are duelests in a game that's supposed to be about solders

… But "supposed to be" might be the operative phrase …

They were stupid. The fact that 1. some how they didn't see you seems unlikely. More likely someone saw you, wasn't on voice, and neglected to say anything. 2. When they did figure out what you were doing they sent a Jenner and had no one else break off just in case. 3. Who the hell breaks off from a fight due to LRM's (mind you before this patch), that Jenner probably could have spent some time harrassing you.

Basically that group wanted to fight, and fight their way, and that was it.

It's just stupid.

Honestly, it doesn't even deserve a post.

1: Possible. (But I'm trying to imagine a scenario where someone sees a lone atlas 300 meters away and NOT wanting to engage or bring it to someone's attention.)
2: That one I can't really blame them for.. I wouldn't want to send back more than I have to given that I didn't know what was there. (I'm sure they'd have sent back more if they'd known I was in an Atlas)
3: The Jenner ran away because he was already being engaged from outside brawling range, in the open.. and the closer he got, the more weapons I had.. LRMs >>>ERLL>>> MLs/AC20.. and I was practically untouched.

Think of the post as a social commentary on how lax people have gotten in their play.. that they wouldn't do ANYTHING except shoot at the enemy with horse blinders on..

Btw: I did it again later, right before the servers went off line... same thing, same obvious route: although I didn't full-cap it, I let my team finish them off for a kills victory.

Sounds absolutely thrilling. I'm sure you taught them a valuable lesson that they won't soon forget.

Really?

Isn't imparting a "battlefield tactic" an effort to evade, deceive or overcome the enemy through a ruse? What you see as "stupid" I see as the OP taking advantage of the opposing teams oversight and neglect and utilizing that to capture their base...

Did nobody else find it funny? I like the idea that an Atlas slowly walked right through the middle of the map right past the ferris wheel and nobody noticed.

I know what you mean O.P.er Wednesday after noon was playing with two friends one of them wanted to play his LRM catapult 2-LRM-15s and other guy had an LRM-10. So I pulled out C-P3O (my bright yellow COM-2d with ECM, BAP, Tag, AMS, NARC, Adv Sensor range, Target decay, & 360 targeting.

Map: Costic valley
we spawned in the factory assault mode. I run up the 3line the cut to their base I did not get on base but turned got in the water. Than I tagged their whole team from behind and never ONCE did any of them turn around and see me as they die one by one from the lrm hitting over the middle of the map.

The smacktalk that ensues usually afterwards is the best part :)

Side step off topic for a sec. The best smack talk that I have ever gotten was when I was in my Urbanspider (Spider 5k w/ STD 100 engine ac10 &small laser.) An enemy Highlander was coming out of the cave on forest colony near the arch. I to go toe toe with him for about 30 sec before my lance mates get in the fight and kill him. I have no left or right torso. For the rest of the match he is complaining that my spider didn't have a XL engine. He also never shot at any of my team mates so i tank all the damage he could give :)

Please now return to topic.
