Tell us what you think of the new Un-manned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Consumables

Quote

UAVs - General Info:

- With a UAV module equipped, you can press Insert to launch a UAV into the air, 150 m directly above you. The UAV will automatically target all enemy Mechs that come within its sensor radius; this information will be shared to your team
- A UAV will not launch if there is insufficient clearance above you
- The UAV can target Mechs that are shielded by ECM and will share this with your team
- Like other shared enemy information, friendly Mechs blocked by ECM will not be able to receive this
- A UAV will be destroyed after taking a cumulative 10 damage. The UAV will self-destruct after being in the air for a certain length of time
- Destroying an enemy UAV is worth 50 XP

Consumable Module: UAV

- Automatically unlocked
- 40,000 C-Bills
- Hovers for 45 seconds before self-destructing
- Detects enemies up to 240 m away

Love it.

Question, is there a Spotting Bonus when you use the UAV?
If not, can we get one? Not necessarily the same as a regular spotting bonus. Maybe half as much.

I think the better versions should have longer duration. 90 secs would sound about right.

Very nice! Nice to run past the enemy, pop the UAV and then see the friendly LRM-boats rain down on all the campers.

Especially OP equipment combined with the unavoidable ability to break ECM and detect hiddent mechs up to 300m away.
The 180m neutralisation range is ridiculous, and the size of the damn thing is too small to be targeted before the death rain above your head.

Flanking becomes useless, as ECM does, and LRM totally OP. You dont even need any NARC or TAG, simply unleash the thing with a scout, and bring the death by LRM upon ennemy team.

The price must be seriously upped if that thing remains like this, or the ability to see throught ECM seriously toned down.

Why not simply let UAV detect ECM-cloaked mechs, without the ability to lock them ?
For example, the ennemy mechs will flickers, giving the position on the map, with a behavior like a ECM-disrupted mech.
That will retains the need to get a clear sight, or a spotter with a TAG to lock them.

This equipment is currently too strong, as ECM previously was.

OR, give a detection area equivalent to each side (240m radius from the UAC to detect mechs, and 240m from the UAV to spot it).

Besides, I was not able to tell if the UAV could detect mechs if not in LoS from them ?
I expect that the Line of Sight being necessary, without that it's completely broken...

I've used the UAV in a handful of matches today and I have no idea of it helped my team or not. I even parked right behind an enemy assault mech launched the UAV and ran. Did not see any targeting changes.

If i understand. U can buy advanced UAV only with real money, its 15 sec longer maybe it's not a big deal but tell me if am wrong, THIS GAME BECOME PAY 2 WIN???

O sorry its not only for money, u need to grind for a year to have that 15 more sec. Only the guys who give real money will have 15 more sec. Officialy its not p2w, but actualy it is. Who will grind for 3 month's to have that. No one!!! Only the guys who will pay for real money will get that. I am scared it's only a begining. Next one is some super ammo which cost dollars or 100000000000000000000000000000000 cb. U are so lame!!!

Love the uav (had been saving gxp for it >.<), and the time period seems about right given its targeting abilities against ecm.

Now Ill agree its far too small in regards to hit detection, especially since most mechs cant track that high unless at sniper range.

It's a good module. It could possible used slightly increased range, and perhaps duration, but I enjoy it quite a bit. It's a nice module that adds some dynamics to the game.

I have used it a few times and had some success with it. Apparently it just stays stationary right where you launch it from. I thought it might have more of a slow flight path in one direction to help "scout" enemy locations ahead.

Had a scout launch one amid a cluster of four or five enemies in Frozen City, and it was a thing of beauty. The LRMs would have blotted out the sun, if there was a sun to blot at least...

Unfortunately the user gets no exp/cbill bonuses from launching one. Assuming they are even suppose to.

Very useful module. Well implemented as well, seems to be correctly balanced right off the bat.

I'm pretty sure I got about 8 spot assists when I launched UAV in the middle of the enemy team. I remember I earned 1500 XP (without premium) in my Jenner during that game, while I did less than 200 damage.

My favorite situation to use the UAV is on River City when enemy is camping at the dropship. I run into the tunnel, launch the UAV at an opening and just see the whole area burn when the LRMs hit.

The UAV is an awesome module and is very effective when used by scouts. It helps if you let your team know you are about to launch it so they can get set up. It has been said before but bears repeating, a spotting bonus would be nice.
