Dont think this will supprise anyone, but the only thing the firerate reduction did was to cripple mechs that dont mount 5 or 6 PPCs.

Better way would have been to reduce heatcap and increase the dissipation gained with heatsinks.

the reduced firerate just made boating PPCs a requirement if you want to use them. The Awesome is even less effective now.

The problem is not the PPC itself but the way heat works,

a Stalker with 6 PPC and just 12 heatsinks shouldnt deal more damage before overheating than a Awesome with 3 ppc and 22 DHS.

Loadouts that focus on the biggest Alpha strikes shouldnt be better than the ones that use weight for heatsinks instead of filling every slot with the biggest weapon.

It actually kinda helps control your heat, least it does in mine. Itchy trigger finger.

Of course it didn't. It was never meant to. It was purely to bring the PPC & ERPPC in line with the other long range high damage weaponry (Large Lasers & Gauss Rifle).

The real nerf to PPCs will hit when they implement the new heat changes to boating lot's of similar weapons in same body sections/hardpoints.

the penalty for multiple weapons wont hurt them at all, they will still be able to alpha strike 2 times, even if they are at 99% after the first one, the problem is the heatcap and the dissipation rate, the multiple weapon penalty wont fix this.

A cool-down system may help if they implement some variable penalties based on firing times.

Honestly though, It's been nothing but band-**** since they turned it on last year. The game just needs a completely new heat/penalty system with graduated heat effects.

PPC users will now complain about LRMs because LRM boats hit their face hard.

Mhm a 6PPC Stalker tried to play that with me today, he overheated after the 2nd shot so i took his head off without effort. Not that imbalanced in my opinion.

My 6 ppc stalker plays just fine. This actually allows me to manage heat a little better which is nice.

Now if PGI really wanted to get interesting make it so you still blow up when it overheats and shuts down. I can still alpha about 5 times (turning on mech alpha shut down repeat) before I blow up after I turn the mech back on. But they don't read these whiny forums now do they....

Boating has nothing to do with heat and everything to do with pinpoint convergence.

If you nerf heat, you'll just shift people towards low heat weapons. 2xGR will make a resurgence.

The PPC cooldown change was not an intended "fix" for Poptarting or High-Alpha Boating; This information is available in the Command Chair posting on Weapon Balancing. I would suggest Users visit that thread and review the most recent postings regarding the PPC changes.
