Alternatively, if a teammate disconnects and he was in a good mech, and one of my remaining teammates is in one of the above mechs, the consumable should instantly destroy that player's mech and force him into the disconnected player's mech.

There are quite a few excellent spider pilots out there, and if that Awesome is boating LRMs currently, it is likely to lead the team in damage and kills.

The problem isn't really the 'Mechs themselves. It's that in order to be as effective in those 'Mechs as in a decent Jenner or Hunchback or Stalker, a player must both configure and pilot these 'Mechs very differently. Unfortunately, there are far more ways to do 'differently' wrong than ways to do it right.
I have seen a skilled Spider pilot wipe out half the enemy team by himself on a regular basis. It requires maneuvering like a ping-pong ball in a hurricane, but it can be done. The Blackjack can actually manage some vicious builds, particularly taking advantage of those high-mounted arm hardpoints, but people are still treating it like a Hunchback or a Cicada, and failing miserably. The Awesome has always been a black sheep among the assault 'Mechs, it's really an overweight heavy. If you set one up with a huge engine and some hard-hitting close range weapons, it can be used like a giant Hunchback to great effect by being fast enough to hit other assault 'Mechs in the rear armor, where an Atlas usually has to fight face-to-face.

If there was a Death Match option, I'd total ignore team play and just do tournament style Solaris all day.

And no, you're not gonna earn these money any time soon and even then certainly wouldn't spent them on a game.

But if you invested as much effort in playing the Awesome in playing the Stalker, Highlander or Atlas, would you score worse?

But yeah that spider is useless, and the non ecm ravens are abysmally slow!

Absolutely. The most over (or under)-powered part of the mech is in the cockpit.

*Spidermech pilot jump jets away*
*lights cigar, mid leap*
*sound of toppling mech in his wake...*
No thank you, OP.
