I'm not talking Melee swings or anything because I could live with or without that. This is strictly about Death From Above and Charging people, which I wouldn't want to live without.

I think DFA should be in the game, I also think that you should suffer falling damage of your own as well as damage to your legs. If the mech goes crit then you need to take damage from his explosion.

The same holds true from bashing - If I want to charge someone at top speed I should be able to ram into them and knock them over if I am bigger, dealing damage to both parties. I should also take a risk of falling over myself if I hit him wrong or glance off of him.

Thoughts?

Sounds good.

DFA would probably be very difficult to execute depending on the game mechanics.

I loved DFA in MW4 (probably the first of the computer games where it was actually useful - too bad charging never has been). There was just something awesome about using an Atlas's head as a landing pad for my Uziel (my main DFA 'Mech). And then hoping I landed at an angle from which I got still shoot the Atlas while we both got back up afterwards...

True :) although in my mind it would have to be devastating damage if you pulled it off. I would imagine it wouldn't be something you would see everyday. I would like it to be something more along the lines of "OMFG! Remember last week in that one match? That guy got DFA'ed!!!" not "hmmm thats the 6th DFA I have seen in this match... this is getting pretty old..."

That's not true. I used DFA in MW2: Mercs like crazy. It was amazingly fun to drop down from a high building and land on some unsuspecting shmuck's face and kill him.

i love those last ditch options. DFA especially. as long as the damage for both parties is relevant.so as not to be abused. otherwise everyone will be in a 100ton mech stripped of weapons using jumpjets and a massive engine to run each other over. melee weapons ftw btw :)

dfa, as in DEATH, should be rare, as in, the mech already has x damage and you dealt x more to equate a dfa. In mw4 the actual damage dealt wasnt that great, it was some , not alot.
THe second part of the equation was the ability to shoot straight down. which was actually way more usefull and easier to pull off than to actually land on top of another mech.
imo, you should be able to hit JJ, shoot down at the mech you are trying to dfa, and if you do it right be able to hit your JJ again after you land on<knock over > the enemy.
then alpha to the face.

High skill, mucho bad ****.

I'd respectfully disagree, keeping something that tall standing after slamming into an almost imovable object would deballance the mech too much for it to stay upright, physics would take over both would end up eating dirt.

If a mech can get knocked over (going off the books) by losing 2-3T of armor after being hit, keeping upright after that would be 99.9% impossible.

That being said, I'd love to see both slamming and dfa in game.

In on of his posts, Bryan Ekman said that physical attacks of the charging nature would very likely make the cut, as it is tied to the physics of the game. Melee attacks though (punching/kicking/axes) are what they say when they say there will not be melee combat.

Melee is a huge system. Charging, knocking down, etc.. are by products of the physics engine. These will mostly likely make the cut. Full on hand-to-hand combat is a beast. It's part of the books, part of Solaris and something we are considering post launch, but only IF we can make it work and look amazing.

I would imagine that means DFA type attacks would be in game.

1 of my fondest and oldest gaming memories is of little inter-unit tournaments my group used to run.

1 of which was a machine gun Battlearmor match we had. 4 of us would drop and do a Deathmatch.

It was down to me and another member, both of us out of ammo jumping around like mad until I finally landed on his head for a DFA kill and the tournament champion!

Hahahaha yes! I remember doing matches with weird rules like that all the time and having to resort to DFA to win. It was fantastic. This game definitely needs to bring DFA back in some form!
