I started piloting the the CN9- A and i have gotta say it lasts longer than my Atlas is most engagements.
Which im sure has something to do with being focus fired but still, I have had many a game where im running around in myCN9 with no core armor im missing both arms and LT and RT and im still beating jobbers with my MLs.
I mean all im using ins 3 SRM4s 2 ML and a LB 10-X AC and to my knowledge SRMs and LB10-X are considers Underpowered. But im still averaging over 400 damage a game, and at this point i chalk it up to my ridiculous survivability.
Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me??

"like omg look! A centurion with no arms! how cute..."
and then I'm like "SWAG YOLO GG AFK Bai" as they wonder in amazement how that and arm less walking machine blew them up with two medium lasers.

Combine that with the arms and side torsos being good shields before being blown off, it lets us spread that damage out a whole lot.
Max leg armour is a must in a cent (in my opinion), at least when playing against people who know to leg them.

Which is fine by me, I'm totally ok with a medium that doesn't go down like a certain kind of person in Bangkok.

"Never saw that before, a Centurion with only 8% hp left"
"I just watched a medium take on two heavies that had more firepower and win....what happened?"
despite being the same breadth as an awesome, the Centurion can make an impression.

I think what's happening is that the game counts a shot-off arm and destroyed side torso as still being there, meaning that if you hit the blown-off arm, only 50% of damage is transferred to the destroyed side torso, and only 50% of that transfers to the center torso - meaning your 20-point shot only does 5 points to the CT.
It's the only way I can explain why the CN9 survives so much better than anything else - I've killed so many 'mechs while just being two stripped-down legs, a stripped center torso, and a head.
While you still have all your limbs, notice that the CN9's arms are HUGE; they usually are the first thing to go, since they also get used as shields by any competent CN9 pilot. And if my theory is correct, those huge arms continue to protect the CN9 even when they're gone.
Also, the CT on the CN9 is really slim and shaped like an upside-down triangle - the CN9 has a very trim waist. Lots of shots pass between the CT and the arms, also increasing survival rates. The slim CT means more shots hit the side torsos than the CT, and those side torsos will still be there when destroyed, only transferring 50% of the damage to the CT.
Well, that's my theory at least; I sometimes die really fast as well, but that's usually due to good aim on the opponent's part, or if running a -D with an XL and getting side-torso cored.

Data supports this theory.
@OP, once people learn to shoot at your balls you'll start dying normally. That area always counts as front centre torso.
