As a father I wept when I read this initially, and wept again tonight while reading it again. My deepest thoughts and condolences to you, Jon, and to your family. The road to recovery will be hard, but together you will make it.

The following is not for you, but for the readers of this forum:

As a player of MWO, I loved the concept of a mech in Sarah's honor.
As soon as I heard that MWO was to make this mech and donate the proceeds to charity I was astounded.

See, the request of a grieving family to support research would have brought a minimal amount of support from anyone, as they had no actual link to the family, the child, or possibly any experience in their own family how horrible this situation is. They could not relate.

BUT, offer people, who play MWO, a mech as a symbol, something they can use in a game they love, well, that would bring in a lot more funding to help children like Sarah and their families.

To make this mech a special load out for this special girl, and to give it a custom paint job in her honor, would secure it as 'Sarah's Mech'.

On the field it would be stating 'I'm aware of what goes on and I'm a decent enough human being to care and donate a bit to help.'

Her story would spread in chat as people asked about the scheme, and this might spark future purchases of Sarah's Mech, donations to charity, volunteer help, or inspiration.

For some members of this community to be stating, whether directly or between the lines; 'If you give me a hero mech I'll buy it', is the equivalent of saying; 'I could care less but if you give me something really cool at a discount price I'm in'.

I will buy this mech if it has 0 hard points and minimal engine, and every once in a while I would drop with it to show I support her memory, and to show support against horrendous disease, especially amongst young children.

A child passes, a family grieves, some cry and honor, some push to take advantage.

MWO has done themselves proud. Some of the community is showing itself as insensitive and selfish at the most inappropriate time. Somehow it still surprises me.

Im with you that im going to buy it even if its useless.

Good post :)

As mentioned before, the DEVs should create a brand new mech, called "Sarah" 6 Missile hard points.

Due to the unique rules governing charity collection and donation, we have delayed the release of Sarah’s Mech briefly while we sort out the last of our paperwork. We had initially hoped to have this Mech available for purchase in June, but given that this is our first major sale for charity, we want to be absolutely certain that all proceeds are donated appropriately and to ensure that all Canadian and international policies are being respected.

I'm assuming unless its in the patch notes, that the message they communicated earlier still applies. Government paper work, especially around charities, can take a lot of time. Lets hope it is announced in the patch notes :-) If not.......the government grind continues.

Kudos PGI for doing this.

The rest of us should be patient and not blame PGI for being prudent in meeting the government regulations.

But patch notes are not out yet, are they? I really hope we'll see the Sarah today, although I doubt they want for it to clash with the Hero Victor. Somehow, I bet it'll be pushed to next week.

I hate you can't gift people stuff. I'd like to buy the Sarah for all those friends of mine who don't feel like spending money on this game as long as it is in beta. I know I can just send the money to the charity without the Mechwarrior excuse, but I'd prefer to do it while remembering Sarah.

+1

Yes, I can give "extra" monies directly to the charity, but going thru MWO and PGI shows it as a MechWarrior doing the donation.

Since we can't go gifts inside MWO, I will use my account, my son's account, and the "alt" account I made up to test ridiculous builds with. If my brother and friend don't buy Sarah mechs, I'll get their account info from them and buy them Sarah mechs that way (or give them my credit card info, I trust them).

I daresay there WILL be all-Jenner matches the day the Sarah Memorial mech goes on sale. And it will be glorious.

What an absolute riot that would be!!!! Most glorious indeed!! <_<

I too, will add this mech proudly to my hangar. I really dig the fact that as a community, we've rallied and shown such support for this project and the family. Things like this make me proud to be a gamer and part of a community that has integrity and a conscience.

Sarah's Mech should be released this month, but as I noted before we're not quite ready to push it live.

Trust me, we want to get this out as quickly as possible; it's such a great cause and the sooner we can start raising money, the better. I'm personally following up with everyone working on this, we're just waiting on our partners and other organizations to get back to us with the final details.

I'm truly sorry about the delay, we're doing our best to get it available for purchase as quickly as we can! It's our first charity-related sale, so we're setting the groundwork for similar charity events in the future. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks, but next time can this kind of info also be included in the patch notes? Or at the very least as a link to a post? Just so more players see it? Because this kind of communication is very likely to not be seen unless it's in a new post.

Makes sense, there's an awful lot of legal & administrative hoops to jump through when taking funds for charity or otherwise running schemes where the cash goes to a charity (having done so several times I know), and despite wanting the money, a lot of organisations can be very slow in how they operate, particularly large organisations.

Still, Rainbow Jenner asap pls.. :)

Thanks Viterbi! Like someone mentioned, patch notes would have been good place to put this though since people were expecting to see read about the mech's appearance in there. But it's appreciated nonetheless.

Exactly what people can and should do. Good suggestion.

ARGH!!!! LOL

Seriously, dot all the "i"s and cross your "t"s....but....quickly....please.

Can you at least share the MC cost it will be? I have MC in my account that I dare not spend because I ponied up for the Overlord package and can't spend any more money on the game for a bit. If I knew the MC cost of the Sarah Jenner I could just save that amount and spend the rest when the fancy strikes me. :)
