Answer is depends:

Are you looking to join a team where you need a minimum of the prerequisite competitive mechs to fill positions needed by a team?

- Get the top tier mech in each category so you can fill the roles needed; later when you can afford the 3 variants, get them so you can get speed tweak then the extra module - these are the most important things needed when min-max'ing a variant.




Are you just pugging / solo queuing?

- Do whatever you like!
