Hello gentlemen,

I am a new pilot who recently got back into this game after a prolonged break. On my first tour I made the exceptionally impressive feat of buying a Death Knell, followed by a Wang*, and then a Flame.

(although I do have great fun playing with my Flame and Wang, and TDK provided an easy 200k in Cbills!)

Wanting to break the streak of buying ****** hero mechs, I purchased a Misery!

As such I would like some advice on a build. You should know that I am extremely skilled at left-clicking - I can accomplish a successful click with all 5 of my fingers 95% of the time. I am also learning how to hit the alpha strike button with my tongue, and I'm having great success!

...

But seriously all joking aside, my main problem (with all builds) is deciding:
1) Which Engine?
1A) XL or Standard?
2) Which upgrades?

As long as I'm pointed in generally the right direction, I'm sure I can figure the rest out. As the old saying goes:

Give a noob a cheese-build, and he will earn Cbills for a day
Teach a noob to be aim, and he will be pro forever~

(I don't particularly want cheese builds, but I wont say no! *wink*)

I'd like to toy around with a double ER PPC/Gauss/whatever build to get used to the mech first. but I'm having trouble fitting everything in. Can anyone lend a hand?

With this build i can get as many as 3 alpha strikes on certain maps, always at least 2 and it melts faces as a brawler!

No cheese, no boating and the new heat changes had ZERO effect on this build. The buff to SRMs made it more lethal.

**Edit: Ignore my front to rear armor points, I always drop my rear and boost the front, I didn't bother on smurfy yet...

Woo! That's fancy!

Since I've decided on upgrading the Stalker chassis to Master first, I will most definitely be putting this build down as one of my fave loadouts. Love the use of all the hardpoints. Seems to pack a punch with some good solid defenses.

Whats your average damage would you say with this build?

I see you didn't choose Endo or Ferro-Fibrous - is this usually how most Stalkers/Miserys are outfitted?
I have Ferro at the moment and I'm certainly feeling the slot-pinch...

@People: Feel free to keep more builds coming. I like having multiple loadouts to keep me interested in a mech

When I ran multiple large lasers, I needed Endo, otherwise I try to avoid it on assault mechs when possible.

If you are okay with the gun explosion, you can drop the AC 20 and a couple heat sinks, add a Gauss Rifle, 3 tons of ammo and Artemis with extra ammo for your missiles, also a 52 firepower build.

Either one can usually manage 3 alphas, but I put ballistic on one weapon group, mediums on another, then missiles and a last group to chainfire lasers when needed.

Having a Razer Naga mouse helps, as all 4 groups are literally under my thumb!

I am a mediocre player but these builds on a good match, can do 400-650 damage, 1-3 kills, 2-6 assists, provided your team isn't mentally impaired, like most of the ones in my horribad ELO, lol!

I am sorry I dont have a smurfy build. But here is my advice.

Put the biggest Standard engine you can fit in there. Never an XL in a Misery, you will die too often.
Do Endo and Double heat sinks.
The Ferro armor is generally not worth losing the spaces IMO.

My build is a gausse, LRM 15, 4x medium lasers, and a tag. + an AMS system. I love it.

The tag not only helps with the LRMS, but it also helps your teammates with their LRMs, and its a laser sight for your gauss.

I only carry 20 rounds of ammo on my gauss, but its generally more than enough as I rarely run out of ammo, just dont be trigger happy with it.

Its close range brawling isn't going to compete with a pure brawler, and its long range abilities wont compete with a pure sniper, but you can play in both styles which means you are never sitting around wishing the game was going differently.

You could go more brawler by swapping the LRMS for SRMS, but thats preference.

good luck and wallow in the joy of your Misery :)

EDIT: Don't forget to put a C.A.S.E. on the gauss gun!

I run mine this way:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...784a46ad1a05937

Sometimes I add an AMS system if I'm running with PUGs, but if you're playing any Stalker right, you're either raining death from a long ways away, or you're sneaking up to get into brawling range: the Stalker's not called the "death blimp" on accident - it's a big target and easy to hit.

For engines, as with any Stalker, always go with a standard. The only time I'd make an exception here is if you want to go as a sniper (3 PPC, Gauss), but typically you want a STD engine and you want it big. I rarely go smaller than STD300 on my Stalker engines, less for actual speed and more for torso twisting and spinning speed, not to mention the extra "free" space to dump heat sinks.

For the Misery specifically, I've seen plenty of builds that run LB10X, UAC5s, and so on, but in my opinion, even as someone who likes both those weapons on other mech chassis, there's no reason to run them on a Stalker (SRMs and LRMs, which most Stalkers can carry in droves, typically do the job better). If you're getting a Misery, you should really be running a big gun in there, so Gauss or AC20.

I like the mix of really long range with the ERPPCs, and the heavy hit-and-shake of the AC20 up close (the ML is there purely for zombie purposes: if you're in a Stalker in any match that isn't a steamroller and you're mixing it up, you will inevitably need to be able to zombie up. The fact it has the same range as the AC20 is icing).

I set the ERPPCs on chain-fire and plink at enemies at range, then use cover to roll into range for the AC20. Try not to get surrounded, don't go solo, focus fire with other Assaults (general rule for any assault mech, but especially the Stalker, which is more of a support mech than a solo brawler, although I've used it that way more than a few times).

Keeping with the same idea, you can pull the ERPPCs and put in regular PPCs for heat savings or even switch up to ERLLs, although I use the PPCs specifically to defeat ECM. ERLLs or even LLs will save you space and weight and you can pop in another pair of MLs. I've done this in the past, but it was less effective than the (smaller alpha) ERPPCs and AC20 combo.

It's weird, but sometimes a huge alpha isn't what wins a match for you or gets you the big kill and damage numbers.

Here's a MUCH cooler running version of Dawnstealer's mech with a Gauss, so you have 3 weapons with sniping or up close abilities.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...81098bc1867f064

Remember, Gauss ammo doesn't explode, so keep it with your weapon to absorb crits that would otherwise blow up the gun itself. You can also trade a heat sink for Case in your left torso, and more armor.
