Found that later. There seems to be some path changes if you're not using tag. However we only recently decided to stop using tag. With tag they're literally going 9 Atlas-heights into the air and coming straight down. We didn't get the idea until we started testing NARC, and noticed an SRM-like quality out of the LRMs going at an angle of attack of 30 degrees.

Edit:
Actually on further investigation, it is starting to seem more range related. 700+ meters, the missiles go straight up in the air.

That would explain two things related to our different perceptions. I'm not using any missile enhancements at all and the flight path based on range makes perfect sense IRL... might be a broken Meta though.

Relative altitude plays a part in missile flights clearing cover as well. I've been hiding literally next to the second-biggest island in Forest Colony(hiding behind a sheer cliff face,) and have had missiles still strike me from the other side of that obstacle because they were fired from upslope on the shoreline - even though I was totally invisible to the firing 'mech.

Indeed. In most cases I experienced it while on the same height as my target and/or attacker. In some cases while they are lower. I happen to be prone to firing at longer ranges, so they go straight up in the air and come down from 7 to sometimes 13 Atlas heights in the sky.

Pre hotfix.
Spoiler

(one more pre-hotfix will be squeezed in here soon as they upload. Note, some videos are still uploading.
These are not particularly organized, just lots of gameplay pre and post missile hotfixes.)

After hotfix.
Spoiler
