Well, I guess we're discussin' it again.

1. Old steam sucked, and it took me years to even give it a second thought. I started using it again a couple of years ago and I really like it now.

2. Personally, I think achievements are stupid. I play to win not to get a little icon on my Steam page. Those achievements get annoying when people play for them and not the overall victory of the team. With that said, if (1) it brings more people to the game it's a good thing, and (2) if they tailor the achievements to team-based playing my aversion to them is moot.

3. People should be able buy and play the game without Steam, but Steam is a great delivery source for PR and access to the game. It can only be a good thing.

I agree with some others on here that Steam was a bit of a 'meh' thing even a few years ago but it has shaped up very nicely. My gaming group has a group page on it where we setup small get-togethers in games as well as voice chat (don't use Steam's anymore as we host our own Vent now). While being fond of as little processes as possible growing up on Windows 3.1 & '98, Steam has a modest footprint which I am fine with these days.

There is indeed a growing number of F2P MMOs being supported by Steam including Star Trek Online and even now, LoTRO (no more Pando?!!) Micro payments are a bit better IMO as you have a more centralized wallet to use on your favorite games plus GameStop (and maybe it's affiliates / sister stores abroad) now sell Steam cards so even more ease of paying for gaming goodies.

Promotions through Steam is also a good way to increase awareness of the game as well as offering little goodies like achievements and promotional items that some people like.

All that said, it is all up to PGI -and- IGP. They obviously care about this IP being the best it can be so whatever they go with will get a fair shake by me first and foremost.

Achievements are rarely truly something you have to "work" towards in a game.

Thats not true. In Deus Ex it took a lot of work for me to make that basketball shot for the achievement. But damn i felt good after i made the shot.

The reason for getting MWO onto Stream is to introduce it to a wider range of gamers. It would be a great way to get new people into the Battletech universe.

That reason alone is good enough for me. New blood to our beloved BT is a welcome thing.

There is one thing I am sure they are considering, If the game go through steam ,that makes it very easy for people
to spend real money ingame.

I hated the old steam it was junk but this last year i have been on steam playing allot of there free to play games STO,DC On line.Battles,Microsoft Flight, etc.I'm finding steam much more friendly than it used to be plus it would give MWO that jump start it needs in new players to maybe hook a few new players. Most things should stay in-game but the traffic count of new players should not.We just need a MSN Gaming Zone version of Steam.

You know what this game needs?

Games for Windows Live and Gamespy at the same time for multiplayer

(yes I know that's impossible, it's a joke. It would make 1000 baby jesus's cry as well)

Would love to see it on Steam as well.
Even better if it made it easier to join friends.

The devs should definitely work to get MWO out in as many ways as possible. More ways to obtain the game means more players and more revenue.

For my personal use, however, I am hoping for a standalone launcher.

Global Agenda is a F2P Game I learned about on Steam.

In the 1st 2 Months I gave them 80$ or so.

MW:O Marketing seriously should consider making the game available on Steam.

Once more, just my 2 C-Bills...

I use to HATE it back in the day, but they have gotten MUCH BETTER since then. It woudl generate publicity if it was on Steam not to mention making distribution and patching easier. Especially, with all the updates the devs will be rolling out in the future.

A game can be integrated into Steam without having to rely on it fully.

There'll be no doubt that the CDN that Steam uses is exponentially larger than what PGI might be able to utilize. And that might result in a much more stable and reliable authorization process, patching delivery, etc.

If the CDN PGI uses is overwhelmed or does not scale well with the load from the consumers, people will be frustrated at being unable to login, getting disconnected from servers, slow patch download speeds and more. It's kind of a fine-edged sword.

Thing is, there'd be expenses either way. Valve doesn't let you use their CDN for free, but having to use a third party service for an interim CDN of your own can be an iffy proposition as well.

I don't really care what it's on, I just don't want achievements.

That took me about an hour of practice to finally figure out how to even throw the ball...

I like Steam, but I know Paul and the others would have problems with the game being on it. Also, there really isn't a point, unless all you want is the in-game overlay. Anyways, Steam has a button where you can add non-Steam games. Just drag the .exe file in there.

I believe that putting the game on steam would help bring in more creativity provided that there is workshop support. Steam provides a more organized hub for gamers to come together form groups, add ideas for content via steam workshop. There is currently a decent community group familiar with the workings of the cry engine platform that may assist developers with addition of new and possibly better content than what closed house development can do on it's own, hopefully the map editor will be reintroduced this will encourage the community even greater since there is a dedicated tool designed to create map content and possibly new game modes this however may not be what the company has in mind for their business model, but closed development is becoming a thing of the past and sticking to this model I can only imagine will bring about yet another dead mech warrior game with it's past elite players reminiscing about the good ole days instead of playing. As more and more skilled pc gamers pop up on the scene developers would only have to approve and and polish for best results instead of putting something out there the community may just drop within the week because everyone hates it making it a wasted effort.

Mech Warrior Oline should be more than just forming small groups of pointy hat leet group members rehashing old battle tech stories and new fictional ones, who wants no one else in their group and hates all new players, there should be players who are skilled and who are able to give back to the community in other ways than just making up some lame sci-fi story which no one may care to read but it's members.
