I just had a match (Conquest, River City Night) where our team of 8 was pitted against a team of 12.
I assume this is a test to pit teams against each other not based on weight or numbers but ELO score.
Let me summarize the experience: It doesn't work out.
In detail:
- uneven numbers in teams on such a small map where you have no room to maneuver - not good.
- bigger teams on a conquest map where your success depends on fighting and capping - not good. The advantage is too single sided on the large team who can afford to run 4 cappers and still have a full team of 8 to guard spots/ engage the other team.
- ELO in a team game: Whut ? If I spread damage around without ever killing anything my battle score is a lot higher than if I just run around dodging every enemy contact and cap my little heart out, which in the end wins our team the conquest map, with me as the oly survivor and 6 or 7 left on the enemy team. But who's contribution to the TEAM is higher?
Now I've seen the Dev-post on ELO and the lovely bell curve, which I understand from reading Scott Adams' "Dilbert" is a Good Thing. But you may want to take a close look at your parameters again: Playstyle - and the result on my personal ELO score - varies with the Mech I drive: If 'm in a heavy brawler, I brawl. If I'm in a fast light capper, I cap. It's not my job to get tied down in battles, possibly get destroyed, but cap. If I'm in a slow 50-firepower Big Mech, it's just that, battle, tie down the enemy in a battle, destroy them or possibly get destroyed.

It's a bug..You're not actually fighting against 12 enemies. There were actually only 8 of them..If you screenshot'ed it and pay close attention, you will see among those 12 people, there were actually double names or overlapping names..
with that being said, 12v12 is not here, thus having 12 people either on your team or enemy team is impossible.

Yeah we don't have 12v12 yet. It's just a graphic error.

So I gotta ask...did you?
A: Win....thinking yourself so good and high in the ELO brackets to justify additional enemies to offset your uberness?
B: Lose....and decide to blame your loss on 'being 4 guys down' ?
LOL...betchya feel pretty silly now

Thanks for so not trolling, but to answer your question I disconnected before the match was over.
The reason ? Weeeeell ...
There's the area in the middle of River city map, near Theta, with ramps running up and down on either side.
And I managed to use speed and the jump jets of my Trebuchet Mech to find the gap between the ramp and the wall and wedge my mech into it. Ba-dam-Tsh.
There: No ground contact, hence I couldn't move AND the Jump Jets wouldn't recycle. My mech was completely stuck there, so all I could do was watch - as far as torso twist allowed (and that wasn't a lot, with half of my field of view blocked by a wall).
Since I couldn't do a thing but wait until some hostile mech would notice, I disconnected.
So ya, I felt pretty silly because of it - not because of the 12 vs. 12 thing, a casual look doesn't necessarily make you notice this since the sequence of the doubles is random, so there's no similar writing pattern you actually have to read the names.
And by the way, it doesn't change my opinion that ELO is a dead horse in a team based game.
