Been goofing off with a AC20 equiped BJ-1 and so far iv not died once to ammo explosion, so in basically if a ****** like me isnt getting blewed up that way then anyones fine with a XL in it.

no issue with putting an xl in- CT deaths are way more common for me than losing the side torsos- figure streaks prefer CT and LRMs prefer CT. nothing really prefers the side torsos. had std engines in mine at first (with the resulting firepower decrease) then noticed all my CT deaths so figured why not. i still have 2.4 tons in my 1x i have no space to fit anything in on (endo-max armor-no slots left to squeeze another dhs which i would really like to do. i could switch the 4SLs to MLs but it already runs a bit warmer than i prefer as it is).
