Not great at sniping, or just want to be generally the support mech everyone says you are? Let me introduce the BJ-1.

This isn't an original build. I figured it out on my own but other people were already using it. Believe it or not, it is possible to find something that works all on your own, and you don't even have to be a competitive gamer to do it. *the horror*

BJ-1

AC20
3xML
210xl stolen from my Raven.

Why is ammo in the side torsos and arms? Play the game at a higher Personal rating and ask people how many times an arm or left/right torso gets hammered before their CT. The legs and head are the best place, but once you fill those up, the CT is one of the worst places to store ammunition.

Looks fun! Scary ammo placement though, haha!

Why not put the ammo in the legs and the jump jets in the torso?

So, wait, you made a flying Hunchback? Cool. I'm loving the energy based BJs but I dread tackling the ballistic variants.

Sorry, your supposed "high personal rating" does not justify that ammo placement. Move the JJs to the torsos. People are learning that blackjacks almost always run XLs, that ammo will make you pop even easier. Other than that, its not a bad build.

Yeah and with rather low side armor that side torso will go fast. I have the same view as I have with my Jagermech: avoid using an XL myself and if I face another one using a suspect load out go for the side torso (which is easier said than done on some of the speedy BJs). The only difference is that instead of using superior weapon range in my Jager (dual AC10s baby!) use superior speed and weapons to out side-core the other guy (though in my dual PPC BJ the former also works).

Here. I updated the build to reflect the recommended changes.

Question, though. Can a rough landing cause an ammo explosion? I mean obviously if your leg goes I'd assume so but can landing damage actually crit your ammo?

I had a similar build I was using this morning, peaked at third place on the blackjack list before I had to get stuff done for the day. The version I was running actually had single heatsinks most rounds, and it was still performing amazingly well.

BJ-1

The smaller you go on the engine, the less advantage you get out of an XL for the same disadvantage. I found the survivability afforded by the standard 225 to be key for getting those extra unsuspected kills.

This build worked best for me of all the builds I've tried. Managed to get mutiple kills several times, and one time even over 900 Dmg. This build is nothing special though, used similar setups in my Cent and Hunchie earlier.

What's special about this one is the jumpjets. It carries more or less what a Hunchback or Yen-Lo Wang can, but with added mobility.

I've gotta try that.

I have been running it now for fun, as I had not bought a new mech for long time. I built essentially what OP did. Right now, with only partial pilot skills upgrades, it is exactly tied with my HBK G in the tourney. I really like this little mech. I like seeing the one AC20 cannon, and its mounted high enough, you can play it like the HBK. It makes me a little sad, as I think after its elited, that it may be a better platform for the AC20/3MLAS, than my beloved G. I play it with an XL, its about as survivable as my HBK. I think it may be partially because BJ seemed to be ignored more in skirmishes.

xl225 or xl235 engine with 1 less med las and 2 less jumpjets. (add 1 more ton of ammo or 2 extra jj's with the 225)

jj's on the torso, ammo on the legs. pretty fun 90kph ac20 harasser. or, mini-jumping-wang.
