Another thing to consider is that the weapon opportunity cost of JJs on light mechs is often more significant than for big mechs.
I have a 5V Spider. If mechs were balanced, then that thing should be considered dangerous, and would only be so due to its prodigious 12 JJs I have in there. 12 Jump Jets, plus the necessary 255XL engine, does not leave much tonnage for the two CT laser spots, both MPLs.
In theory, that mech should be as fair a choice to take to battle as another mech of mine, the Highlander 733C. The 733C has 4JJs. I feel like I get as much benefit to the mech as I do on the 5V from the JJs. But I also manage to stick an AC20 and a bunch of other weapons on there, and get close to half the speed of the spider with a 325XL engine.
In other words, the weapon capacity opportunity cost of JJs on my spider is way, way higher than on my highlander. But by design, the 5V has to make up for its weapon shortage with jump jets. I believe this is an achievable design goal, but would require more benefit from Jump Jets to light mechs. I truly hope this gets fixed. Faster launch accelleration for lighter/faster?/moreJJ mechs would help; other features could as well.
I use JJs for tactical maneuvering, brawling, getting over enemy torso weapons' aim, clearing a building to flank unsuspecting mechs, but not so much for the jump-sniping.

This is what I've been saying all along. The Spider's JJ's take up TWENTY PERCENT of the mech's loadout. The Highlnanders JJ's take up only 8.8%. What do you get for your 20% JJ investment? Lackluster take off, mediocre height, and zero maneuverability. Since you lose momentum when you use your JJ's, they actually make you an easier target.
And now with JJ shake, you can't even shoot in a platform MEANT FOR JUMPING.
