I once put 3 SSRM2s in my Assault mech as extra protection from of course, light mechs.

Then in a game before the LRMWarrior hotfix (when almost all mechs have AMS), i fired it on a

COM-2D. It went premature ejac__, Now I'm sure 1 AMS negates at least 3 SSRM2s. So i think

it's a must for light mechs

AMS + ammo is 1.5 tons. Better get the adv. seismic sensor (which takes 0 slots and weights 0 tons), and spot the streak cat coming from beyond his max range, even if s/he comes at your back.

Seismic doesn't tell you whether it's a Streak Cat. And when I only have short range weapons, i might still want to engage a streak cat directly.

You can't always run away from the enemy.

As a Streakcat player, I find myself dealing noticeably less damage to mechs equipped with AMS and actually saw many of my missiles clawed out of the sky by the AMS, especially when the enemies are close to each other. This never happened pre-May patch.

So yeah, keep AMS equipped, or you might regret it.

edit: Even if you does not feel AMS is gonna be useful to you, remember that it still can protect your allies nearby.

Yeah this is definitely true. In my A1 I often chain fire my SSRM's to cause maximum panic and confusion because I am a horrible, horrible person. I noticed last night vs a K2 with AMS that it was basically picking off all my chain fired missiles and I had to start alpha striking instead.

I removed AMS... so meh.

However, AMS's buff to counter streaks does leave me intrigued...

I definitely agree, any mech that is brawling or will be near a group and wont hurt your build tremendously should have an ams.

But I can't fit AMS onto my GaussJager anymore! I'd have to sacrifice firepower! Or Ammo! Or Armour!

Real GaussJager pilots dont need AMS. Or Ammo. Or Armour. You just need a bit of Chuck Norris.

Meh. Been running an A1 since the 21st patch and this has happened exactly once. Hardly a terrifying thought.

Yep I have noticed my AMS has engaged SSRMs fired at team mates. The AMS still mostly fails to shoot at SSRMs launched at me though.
