It's a pain to get hats and in the case of my latest headphones, it's literally a pain as they squash my ears and start to hurt quite badly after a few hours. The headset i have that with a mic are a bit rubbish too so i was wondering what headphones out there are roomy?

Have you ever tried an open ear headset? They're very comfortable.

I too have a large head, I find the Logitech G390 (wireless, the wired version is the G35) headset very comfortable with great sound and a good mic. Must my opinion though, your results might vary.

I recently picked up a set of Turtle Beach X12's that fit me well. (Hat size is 7-7/8 and helmets are always XXL or XXXL.) The only problem I have when wearing them is that my ears get hot. That's not from the headset, it's my own body heat. Kind of like wearing earmuffs in the house.

I really like my G930, especially because it combines with my G19 software.

Seconded. The Corsair Vengeance 1500 is a superb gaming headset (the wireless one gimps the software; it's not worth touching until they fix that). The sound is great, the surround effective, and the mic is very good. It's also only about 80 bucks. The 1300 is good if you have a soundcard already that supports Dolby Headphone (read: any Asus Xonar card, and nothing else). That said, they also fit a bit tightly on the head. For most people, they're very comfortable, from what I hear, and from my own experience, but Corsair may not be the way to go if the OP really has a large head.

OP, if other headsets are really that uncomfortable, the Razer Carcharias is what you want, not just as a generalized "it's an awesomesauce all around headset" (it's actually only decent), but as one that fits you in particular. It's exceptionally light, grips exceptionally lightly, and for the most part, doesn't even feel like it's on your head. It's somewhat delicate, so take at least a bit of care to not run wires under chair coasters, etc, but it should fit you nicely, and it's cheap enough that you don't have to break the bank to try it (they're $40-$60). They also sound above-average for a gaming headset (and at least on par for any decent headphones in that price range, imo), and have a very good mic.

have you tried using sets that use a neckband instead of over the head? those can be fairly comfortable and are basicly one size fits all especially huge heads like my own

Not sure if this will be of any help as I don't know where you can find these anymore, but if you come across any Turtle Beach HPA2s, I can vouch for those. Very comfortable and great sound, has and still does serve me well for the past 2-3 years. Above average head here too, I think (friends/family seem to think so, at least :P )

I use Audio Technica AD-700's with a Zalman Clip on mic. The headphones are super comfy and rather large. The sound quality is also great, but your bass will suffer because they are open air. I suggest going to headfi.org to see if there is anything to your liking there.

The AD-700s often seem to be consider the go-to headset for gaming, but I have heard comfort complaints with them.

Unfortunately, I'd have to disagree with this. I have one and my ears tend to hurt, sweat, and/or get really itchy after less than an hour of use. It's actually the most uncomfortable headset/headphone I have ever owned.

Having said that, did you find a way to loosen them up? Or do they eventually become more comfortable after a while? I have had one for over a year but rarely use it (i.e. bought it more for the 5.1 functionality and less for the mic) as I have other headphones.

Hmm, nah I didn't find a way to loosen them, but they did seem to over time. but now that you mention the itchiness, I do remember some friends say around the time I got it, that they found it uncomfortable and itchy. I had no problem with them for some reason. So yea, he probably ought not to go with these if I'm in the minority. ;) Glad you could offer a differing opinion hehe.

I bought a Plantronics headset last year, the sound quality was good, but the fit was "PAINFUL", after an hour of wearing them, I was literally in pain, and I went and got a cheap logitec headset with mic, and it is light and comfrotable, but at the cost of quality sound...
.
With a bigger head you are going to need a bigger headset, preferably with a full cup (headphone) that covers the entire ear and doesn't pinch your ears or squash your head like a vice....
.
That's the answer, you need a bigger headset... Read through reviews until you find one that says.. "Works great for big heads".
