In the Mechlab MGs and Flamers show the amount of damage they would deal over 5 seconds of constant fire. This makes them seem much more powerful than they actually are.
Why its a problem: Its misleading
Possible fix #1: Make firepower an accurate representation of the mech's alpha strike by representing MGs/Flamers by their damage over 1 second (this is the duration of lasers).
Possible fix#2: Make firepower an accurate representation of the mech's damage dealing ability by applying the 5 second rule to all weapons
Examples: AC/20=25 firepower, PPC= 12.5, ML=6.25, SRM6= 11.25, LRM 20= 18.95
I personally like the second one.

I don't take MG and Flamer damage stats seriously, but they are literally misrepresented.... MGs genuinely don't do the damage listed when added to firepower. It's effectively a made up/arbitrary value. Before the MG buff, I think it increased the firepower # by 2 pts (this is effectively over like 5 seconds if we go by pure DPS)... which under most circumstances NEVER EVER HAPPENS in a real game situation.
For an MG, it operates something closer to 2 seconds worth of firepower... the same could be said for the Flamer.
