I've been having a lot of trouble with other players (especially faster mechs) throwing themselves in-between me and my target right at the last second before the enemy dies is this simply there tactic to keep me from getting a kill shot, situational unawareness, or that they want me to shoot them in the back? I've noticed blackjacks following right on my back when I'm in my atlas only to come out and do this just as the kill is going down and I must say it is quite annoying. What should be done when teammates do this every time there is a kill to be had?

Point your lasers up, walk around them and shoot the target without them in between. XP is worth more than shooting one of them.

Usually I yell "REALLY DUDE? REALLY?" at the screen and then go make myself some hot cocoa. People are idiots, plain and simple. The only thing you can do about it is to find a nice coping mechanism. I find cocoa works. Other people prefer . . . stiffer drinks.

If someone in a blackjack is going to "toasty!" in front of your Atlas as you fire, they deserve to get cored. They'll learn, or you'll eventually ELO out of their range.

These are the people who cut off semi-trucks on the freeway, except on here, you CAN hit them. Enjoy!

Yup. Nothing like doing 700+ damage in a ballistic/laser Cataphract (read: no missile spread issues) and not coming out of a match with a single kill.

I simply cope with it by looking at the end-of game summary screen and admiring my game score. Especially since the guys with the kills are often not even close. It helps me get by. ;)

This kind of behavior gets even worse when the tournaments are on. Kill shots are worth double what assists are, so people will intentionally hold their fire until they know they'll get a kill. You probably noticed it on Blackjacks because they had their own category in the tournament.

I just shoot anyway. It's the only time I get TKs.

The main reason I noticed blackjacks is because I had a few matches where 1 of them was on my back the entire match literally running into me ect.... then coming out and running in front of me for the kill. I know for sure they were just trying to kill steal/use me as a shield, but in general I've noticed a lot of people running in front of my fire sometimes even when I'm pretty close to my target. I usually try to stop shooting but I usually end up putting at least a couple rounds into there back. Maybe I should go for a higher alpha build instead of the heat balanced builds I usually run with, I think it might would discourage it.

As much as it sucks to lose money for a teamkill I kind of agree with you. If they do it unintentionally, then it just might teach them situational awareness. If it's on purpose then they deserve it imo.

On the one hand, I don't ind losing the kill shot since you still get the same reward for an assist as a kill. On the other hand someone who is specifically kill stealing generally means that they are not contributing fully to their team.

Some people just like to boost their E-peen with a high KDR. That's why I wish they didn't keep track of that stat since it's misleading. One could go with 8 kills but have only done 50 or so damage. It's annoying, but I still got more Exp than them, and more C-bill, so I'm fine with not having that ratio improve. .62 and IDGAF.

Look bud... yer in an Atlas, being a meatshield is part of your job. As for friendlies stepping in between you and the target. It happens. Far more often than not I'd suspect simple SA failure to be the case. I know I've done it about 10200913 times so far. As long as we don't have any rear view mirrors it is going to happen! I've also learned what every infantryman since the invention of the tank has learned. That big hunk of steel is not "cover". It is a gigantic moving bull's eye! So while I try to stay somewhat close to Atlai I tend to hang back and off to the side. That way I don't start taking hits from misses aimed at it or suddenly draw the attention of the 6PPC stalker and get cored by Alpha.

I am an uber aggresive pilot. I play a medium: skirmisher or an assualt: brawler usually. Kill stealing and huggin are not the same, but it can be used for it. I admit I have been called a hugger before. Usually in a derogatory way by fire support poptart pilots. Let me say that I do not do it on purpose usually

There are times when hugging is a valid strategy. For example: hug that 6 ppc stalker and he can't hit you or your teamates, hug a light in tight terrain to block him in and he can not get away, hug an assault's back to quickly dispatch him, hug an atlas on an incline and he cant hit you with his torso weapons etc etc. If you have the armor, hugging is a higly efficient way to get kills as its hard to miss within 5 meters.

Also when you are in an atlas people will use you as a mobile shield. That is what the atlas is for. Take damage and give it back. If a certain pilot is bothering you with hugging and kill stealing mention it in the chat. If you are polite he might stop or find a different fatlas to follow.

Not all huggers are mean spirited or bad pilots. I got 11th in the trny in Centurions (6 points away dang).

No worries. You get plenty of XP and cash for assists, and that one second just might save you from a last alphastrike.

I think when it comes to the kill stealing issue, remember the game is about the TEAM winning. In actual practice as long as the enemy is dead then the day is won. I hardly ever get any kills but I average 4-5 assists in a game, which tells me that I'm doing my part in bringing them down. This is a team game after all...

Just my 2cents.

I understand that I'm a mobile shield when I'm in my atlas. I also hug my enemies whenever I get the chance but usually I wait a bit so the poptarts can do there thing while I try to get a good position to charge in from. I run a close range brawler build, and want people to follow me/stay close or my life expectancy is fairly short. I also don't care so much about "who gets the kill" however the blackjack I'm speaking of was staying behind me the entire fight running into my back even while I was shooting at enemies then once the center torso was red he would swing around in front of me steal the kill then swing around to my back again, he was doing almost no damage per fight but getting all of the kills, it was quite annoying. I just got a stalker and am probably going to play it more as I can just shoot over people's heads when they get in front of me lol

Now THAT is a stat that PGI should look at tracking. KDR is fine. But ADR (Assist/Death-Ratio) would be great!

Try playing with friends, or make new friends in any number of MWO communities. Friends help each other anyway they can... when you're in a pit, they'll help you out of it...
