Remember when you guys where crying that the heat system was too unforgiving?
Because I sure do!

Mechs heat up to fast, running hot carries no penalty, completley seperate issues.

I haven't tried it lately, but I remember the stock hunchback could overheat firing a single medium laser at one point. That is a Problem.

On the other issue, if you run a mech that stays at 90%heat, and constantly shuts down maybe there should be a penalty for that, the problem is you cannot have a penalty if the heat system forces everyone to run at 90%

My position was always that the heatcap should be lower but dissipation should be higher, discourages alpha striking, doesn't penalize actually using your weapons.

Get it?

Anyway heat is not the solution to this problem, the solution is to send seismic to the scrap heap and restore SRM's to the pre LRM apocalypse levels, not the 15 point SRM6 the 9 point SRM6 that you could actually AIM at 1 or 2 sections on an assault mech from inside of 90m.

With SRM's a serious threat up close, and fast moving hard hitting heavies and mediums on the field who can trash a PPC boat that they get inside of, PPC boating will again be a high risk/high reward strategy.

Just to toss in a few cents.

I have a regular teammate who boats PPCs. Don't be too harsh, he runs an Awesome 8Q. That one is pretty much canon to boat PPCs.

One Canyon match, he was at 95%, 98% heat and decided to Alpha on a nice target. This was the end result:

This was fairly early in the game. Note that he still has armour -- only light damage. Yet he has quite impressive internal damage, and his head is gone (even though the head armour is still there). This is all internal damage by heat, including a critical cockpit hit (by heat!).

So there is a heat damage effect, and there is a critical chance by heat damage. The issue is that the way MWO cockpit UI conveys damage reports as a whole, you usually don't get to see damage until you die from it...

Yes heat is an issue and should be revamped. However, If PPC take up 4 crit spots instead of 3 we can drastically reduce the amount of assaults boating PPCs. You can't kill the poptart fad, you can only hope to control it. This would be an easier option to implement on a development level than an overhaul of the heat system. The path of least resistance and GIGO is huge in programming. Why make more work for yourself when you do not have to?

I'm fine with this so long as

1: Only Founders get to use Clan mechs

2: You forfeit any right to complain about Clan tech when it arrives.

I say no to everything in this topic. Only founders being able to use clan mechs would be the definition of ******* pay to win. You are an *****. This is a free to play game dont start suggesting that someone who is willing to toss $50 at a game to win. I say this having spent $200+ on this game but i shouldnt have an advantage for that.

That heat is because he overrode a shutdown not because he fired at a high heat percent. I know this because i ran a 6 erppc stalker and a 5ppc 1 gauss Cataphract. I could alpha and overheat in both
, i would override after 3 secs and be at 90ish% heat but could alpha again and not die unless i overrode with my heat above 100%. Now i will admit i have died a few times in my 6erppc stalker from b=heat but thats because its a joke build with 16 dhs and a std engine lol. He must have like std heatsinks to die from overheat.

More than 3 PPCs overheat. Anyone who takes more than 3 is a newbie because their mech will shutdown in protracted combat. You know what a skilled pilot does to a shutdown mech? That's right! An Alpha-Strike through the cockpit. That's just game over man. Because all weapons hit true when fired at a motionless mech.

How do we fix AC2 boating? They take a long time to overheat. And 3xUAC-5's never overheat and do more damage than 3xPPCs.

Okay everyone take a deep breath now, and just expect energy weapons to be as good as AC's in the 31st century.

Other than that (@ OP's suggestion) there is an innate symetry to the three weapon types in MechWarrior. Ballstics, are Big and Heavy, but very Cool mostly. Energy is Small and Light, but very Hot. Missiles do damage a bit differently. The idea is that by not boating you create a better and more stable config and that mechanic is actually at work in MWO now.
