Personally I think the idea of the heat tax for multiple weapons of the same type to be stupid and unreasonable.

Why should weapon boating not be allowed? Why restrict the customizability of a persons mech?
Of course there are those that want ppc boats banned, I have come face to face with a six ppc stalker and been alpha shot in the grill, but that is part of the game. The simple fact is, some people are going to complain about everything, that is not a good reason to restrict everyone.

I have a ppc boat myself, and it is quite fun to play from alpha strike to alpha strike, granted I am overheating a lot, and typically die because of it, so should it be called unbalanced? A spider carrying 1 large pulse (prior to the recent patch) could fairly easily brawl the stalker to death in a 1 on 1 fight.

I do, however, like the idea of excessive heat burning out components or weapons, perhaps frying the hud, sparking in the cockpit, and shocking the pilot. That I think would make for interesting game play, without it feeling like simple hate for boaters.

As I said, the Idea of a heat tax is stupid. Variety of mech builds from all of 1 type of weapon to 1 of every type of weapon (given the slots and weight) should be allowed to exist in the game without stupid penalties. That is one aspect that make the game more interesting and fun, at least for those of us who have the skill and intelligence to defeat any single mech.

Getting 1 shot in a match may hurt a person's pride, but that is a part of the game, I have called "********" a number of times when headshot, but headshots will always and should always exist, until the whiners get those removed too.

I have two threads on heat, specifically addressing it so that boats are still viable but require higher skill to play. Please have a read and sign the petition if you agree.

I'm just going to go right ahead and hugely offend forum protocol by quoting myself here.

Boats are good. They will always be good. It's because your weapons are unified in purpose and use, making you as efficient as possible at your chosen point of engagement. A sniper wins at range, a facemelter wins in a brawl. A mix of the two looses in both cases. A lot of the effective canon mechs are boats for this reason, and a lot of the more effective mixed-weapon loadouts are built to synergise their weapons.

The Atlas is often held up as example of why "Boating bad! BAD!" by people who think they understand the canon because it runs all three weapon groups. The AS7-D, the 'prime' variant, runs 4MLAS, an AC/20 and an SRM6. All of which have an engagement range of 270m. It also carries an LRM20 pack to lob at things while closing, but the primary armament is facemelting brawler weaponry. It actually synergises better in TT than in MWO because range is the only aiming factor. Once the Helm Memory Core starts spitting out lostech like candy, we see a general increase in sensible stock builds. We also see the AS7-K. A gauss rifle, two ERLLs and an LRM20 for the primary armament, a couple of MPL as a backup. Again, the primary armament is highly synergised. Both Atlai function like boats as much as if they carried 4xAC/5s or 3PPCs or what have you. The overall number of weapons are increased in MWO, but that's universal, due to more hardpoints and slightly borked heat.

I have nothing against boats. I have a few in my mechbay, so I don't want to come off as a "boat-hater." I don't think we need to punish them outright. I also don't like the incoming heat "fix." I do think the PPC needs a heat adjustment, but whatever.

My point: I agree with you about heat effects being a good idea. Permanently frying them at a point would be cool. I also think temporarily frying them at some lower point would be cool. But haven't the devs said that they have no intentions of adding heat effects like that?

The problem I have with boating PPCs is the pinpoint accuracy.... with TT things would be a bit more randomized.... but with MWO stacking high alpha pinpoint damage will always be king... if they nerf anything it should be weapons convergence... then ppc boats wouldnt be so scary...

The heat tax wont change a thing...

Someone suggested before that maybe weapons convergence should rely on target locks... to me this sounds like a really good idea...

Or the accuracy itself, Laser-boats are far less scary and annoying than the FOTM pinpoint mechs, changing most of the pinpoint weapons into ones that fire a set amount of bullets under a short period of time would most likely reduce the current problems to an acceptable level.

Sure it will. All the 6 PPC stalkers will be 3 PPC/3ERPPC stalkers and will shut down even faster.

I want a heat tax as well. I want to pay MG mechs to take some of my heat so I run cooler.

the awful truth is, that no matter what happens, people gonna bich. Personally I HATE jenners with a bloody passion, but I'm not intent on getting them nerfed
