Will MWO Use Kinect for Windows?

I recently saw this article about the new Kinect for Windows being developed by Microsoft. I was wondering if the MWO team will include this in their design process?

I am pretty sure this is going to be a PC only game atm...so kinect probably won't be useful...It would also
greatly change and take away from the Mechwarrior cockpit experience...I have Kinect on my 360..and quite
frankly i would hate relying on the hit or miss frequency of kinect to follow my moves and the lag involved.
even wireless leyboards and mice can sometimes be the reason ofr a loss in battle due even to the tiny lag introduced.

Give me a hard wired joy and throttle any day...true to Mechwarrior style... :)

IF Kinect were implemented (which I seriously doubt it will be), there are really only two things I could see it being used for. This is because its use would be restricted due to how close it would be (right on top of your monitor or a desk above it or something), keeping it from tracking your whole body.
1. Torso twist. Simple enough - turn your body a bit, and the 'Mech starts torso-twisting. Simple, and hopefully easy enough to track.
2. Pilot look-around. Again, fairly simple and hopefully easy for the Kinect to track. You turn your head a bit to the side, and the pilot starts turning his/her head that way, letting you check your sides (also letting you aim to that side with an arm using your joystick/mouse/whatever) or above you (for lights or mediums camping on top of buildings).

Why use some crappy microsoft gimmick when you can use something like Track IR instead? Track IR would make this sooooo much more awesome.

I kinda wanted to get some exercise while blowing mechs up.

Jazz hands up high for a Cat missile launch..... Mr Roboto hands from the waist for forward lasers.

Twist that torso!

There is a kinect based mech simulator called Steel Batallion. The game failed... do you want to know the reason?

instead of kinect Track IR would eb handy though for pilot look around ;)

How about FaceTrackNoIR for head movement all you need is a good webcam for this one ;)

The kinect is great as a cheap sensor for doing 3d scans or for use in simple games.
But...
Mechwarrior is a game that leans towards simulation.
Simulation heavy games tend to be anything but simple.

There's just too much input to be mapped...
How would you make the mech walk?
How would you torso twist?
How would you choose weapon groups?
How would you fire zee railgun your weapons?
And, most importantly: How would you aim precisely while doing the movements required for the other inputs?

Thus follows: unless an input scheme can be found that can be used without doing the kinect equivalent of playing twister, the kinect would make a bad choice as an input device.


Then again, if someone did head tracking with the kinect, it might be usefull as a replacement for trackIR.

Another usage would be scanning in your head to generate a customized avatar, but since we won't be able to get outta' the mech (yet)...

even if kinect were used in MWO, you'd still need a controller for the presice stuff because kinect is not good for fine adjustments
and how would select and fire weapons? it can be done.(im a programmer) but who would waste their time working on a less-than-practical interface like that?

Doesn't seem like it would be a good fit. It might work, but I wouldn't dedicate effort for it if I were Pirranha. Kinect is for sports and fast reaction games. In a mech, your'e gonna have some delay because it's a big unit. Kinect seems like it would be just about the worst control tool possible.
