I got the game working decently with a program called Deskope, but unless OP can reproduce the results, I'm calling BS on the Vireio driver supporting this game.

Eh? It's simple.

Copy the 3 dll files from the Perception\bin folder into the MWO Bin32 folder.

Then edit the Perception profiles.xml file and create a new setting for MWO. I used a copy of the Skyrim profile, and changed the game_exe value to "MWOClient.exe".

Then start MechWarrior, and launch into game - the modified d3d.dlls will create the rift view for you when you actually launch into a game. The minimap and hud aside from the central portion is pretty much unreadable for now, and there's no head tracking, but it does work.

EDIT - actually - it doesn't work since the last patch - what did they change? I'm getting horrendous HSR issues and warping due to the last patch, so I've run the repair tool and reinstalled since I had it working so the patcher cleaned out the perception files I had in there previously.

Have they changed the D3D stuff? That's very dissapointing if they have done. It wasn't really playable, but with headphones on it was really quite fun, even without head tracking. (Although I did stick a TrackIR on the Rift and tried that, but it was waaaay to sensitive, and I got really motion sick within seconds!).

One thing to note if it does start working again a future patch - the display is rendered for the rift, but the mouse position for the interface uses the whole screen size, so you need to click on buttons for where they *should* be if the game took up the whole window, rather than where they are with the Perception driver. Thankfully, the UI buttons light up when you mouse over them, so with a bit of trial and error, they're easy enough to click for the Mechlab etc.

That's if it starts working again however

Deskope is a bit fiddly - hopefully VorpX will appear on the horizon sooner rather than later.

Hang on - got it working a bit - but it crashes now on launch, which it didn't used to do.

You need the original 1.0.4 Perception download from here http://www.vireio.com/

Then copy the 3 dll files from the Perception\bin folder into the MWO Bin32 folder.

Then edit the profiles.xml file in the Perception\cfg directory. Add this profile:

<profile game_name="MWO" game_exe="MWOClient.exe" game_type="601" separation="0.00357999" convergence="0" yaw_multiplier="25" pitch_multiplier="25" roll_multiplier="1" />

Then start the Perception.exe from the Perception\bin folder.

Launch MWO - it should be in "rift" mode. Certainly the mechlab etc is rifted, but it now crashes when launching into a drop - they must have changed something

I have video showing it working up until "launch" - I'll upload to youtube.

So basically... no 3D, not cropped properly, no head tracking, too blurry to read, too difficult to play...

It's not really working on the Rift. But if you really want to, you can kinda play MWO with the Rift headset on.

All the hacky Viero stuff is only good for Rift owners really starved for content. If you use your Rift for development purposes, playing games without native Rift support on the Rift is significantly less compelling.

Thanks for posting back. I did manage to get the menu's working in 3D following your instructions but likewise crashed upon launch. So sad they broke the support for MWO! Hopefully it'll work again soon. I would love head tracking too. Anyway let us know if you get a working solution, I'll do the same Thanks again for all the info :D!

It's working (after a fashion) with the new TriDef beta drivers!

See: https://developer.oc...t=3188&start=20

Headtracking works, and moves your torso around, as does the mouse - bit disconcerting and nausea inducing for now - turn the Mouse sensitivity down - that helps.

Text on the periphery of the screen is still hard (or impossible to read), but the mini map is better than it was with Virieo and the rest of the in-game text is almost reasonable.

With a 1080p Rift, it'd be perfectly fine. Withe the current 720p model it's still too pixellated really.

But it's working!!!
