Hi folks, I have just purchased 6,500 MC. Anywhere I can get myself refreshed about the various weapons cause the last time I played MW2 was 18 years ago :P Also, are the loadout configurable, e.g. add 5 heat sink or replace the heat sink by SRM...etc Thanks.

All chassis that you purchase are fully customizable save for set hard points for weapons and certain gear like ECM and jump jets.

Engine sizes are restricted by chassis, so you can't go over or under certain sizes.

That being said, you can change the skeletal structure of the mech, armor type and heat sink types as long as you have the cbills to do so. Also you can yank a weapon out and replace it with a Heat Sink or vice versa as long as you have the cbills to purchase the new hardware and do not go over the max weight.

The Mechlab will display the costs of the mods, how the effect heat, armor, weight and so forth. It also gives basic info on each piece of equipment.

On the forums there are guide sections that deal with Mechs and their weight classes as well as load outs, equipment , Mechlab and controls. I'd suggest perusing them prior to purchasing a mech.

There is also a wiki that you can check out. Sarna.net
As well as an online Mechlab that you can use to try different builds before you buy anything. But the address escapes me as I'm not at my computer at the moment. I know someone will chime in with it or you can google online Mechlab.

Happy hunting. I hope I helped a bit.

Edit to add: save some MC to purchase mech bays with. You may end up being a mech collected like many of us.

Additionally. Weapons, ammo, engines, and related hardware are movable from mech to mech.
So if you buy more than one mech, you can pull the engine from one and place it in another as long as it fits the requirements this saving you money. You will find that you will have quite the arms store after a bit, making it easier to play with load outs.

Going from Standard to Endo steel, or Single Heat Sinks to Double, or Standard Armor to Ferro Fiberous is a cost that is paid per chassis and can't be swapped from one to another.

Also, don't buy non hero mechs with MC unless you're really in the mood to burn some cash. Its just not worth it.

The address for the online mechlab that Kaarde mentionned is the following:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab

It should help you get a grasp on the modifications you can make to the mechs. Have fun with this thing it might save you some c-bills.
